Guest 82EVO
do new 4g engines like 4g63 evo/vr4 or 4g61 cyborg engines fit into ex lancers with say a sigma crossmember and gearbox? cheers
RT
what do you mean 'fit into' ? anything fits if you want to make it fit. But if you mean bolt straight in... then probably not.
Guest 82EVO
yea bolt state up sorry
isnowi
4g63 dohc turbo/non turbo bolts straight into 1600 ex, major work needs to be done on thermostat/ water pipes, also manifolds need to be made, these motors will bolt up to a 2litre sigma gearbox. if your wanting to do a quick cheap transplant then the 2litre sohc carbed motor from a sigma is the best bet, straight swapover, no hassles with fuel pumps, surge tanks, custom manifolds, heater hoses, etc, etc. search, there are plenty of threads (on this site and others) that go into both options. TygerTung
Yeah the one from the VR-4's are sweet as, these have the 6 bolt crank etc, but the 7 bolt crank ones from the evo's are no good. No mounts on the block!
lowlancer
They have the ability to have mounts though, those little moulds

isnowi
i dont know if the g61 will fit or not. I have been having a few evil thoughts about a 6g72, have had a look at a couple up at the wreckers, from preliminary measurements it will fit in the bay, pretty tight on room for exhaust, and would also most likely need some tunnel mods as well as possibly a gearbox adaptor, however they do appear to have mounts that can be worked into a rwd setup. If there is a rwd block that fits i may just have to pursue this train of thought a little more, would love the flat torque curve of a V6, plus would sound the nuts howling through a gravel special stage... kyteler
The V6 in Pajero's is mounted North-South so should be applicable to a RWD setup.
isnowi
Ihave heard talk that the 2.6 astron bellhousing pattern is the same as the 6g72, pretty sure this holds true of the earlier sohc ones, but not too sure about the dohc motors. lowlancer
Yeah I've heard that too. I've been dreaming of a MIVEC turbo V6, FTO stz Celeste, that would be terribly badass.
R100
i went a bought a 1992 V6 galant, pulled the mpotor out today, will get the wiring loom out tomoro, now just have to adapt it to a RWD box

No they wont. They are completely different. The 6G72 has a V shaped bell housing, and the Astron doesn't (go figure..)
fuel
They have the ability to have mounts though, those little moulds Nope not the 7 bolt 4G63 found in the Evo 1 onwards. The only mount on the engine is the cam belt side engine mount, the other mounts are all on the gearbox. The 6 bolt 4G63s found right up to the E39A Galant have castings on the side of the block for mounts.
