Guest Pipster007
They go straight in, with a little bit of fiddling. Well for us up here, its easy. There is a firm here that does the wiring loom, the Ford to Vauxhall bellhousings and a kit to match it all up together. I just didn't know if you had the XE engine fitted to any cars that may have been exported to you. The reason poeple are going for XE power, is that they are so easy to get up here. Get the engine from a write off. The kits are easily got. 170 BHP standard. They are 1/3 of the weight less than a Pinto engine and they are extremely reliable. I'm unsure of postage and exchange rates for you, but you could have an extremely fast, reliable everyday running Old Skool motor. BTW You can use normal carbs, as throttle bodies are f***ing expensive. Roughly £2,000 sterling
RT
yeeah.. but it's a holden isn't it. I could never put a holen engine in a Ford.. imo of course. (I also don't think we have that engine here. we definately don't do the kits. And probably arn't many people willing to do such a conversion)
R100
how about a V6 ford thundebird engine, very similar to ford explorer V6 i picked up a 1996 supercharged V6 ford thunderbird engine and box with intercooler from a wrecker about 5 months ago for $1000, came with the auto trans. has cast iron block with alloy heads, still a pushrod engne but would be very kewl under the bonnet of the capri Befor you ask me if i still have it, i dont, sold it to a guy who is putting it in his Mark 4 cortina
R100
another idea for the capri is fit a mazda MX5 engine and 5 speed, the MX5 engine is a 1600cc twin cam code number "B6" same motor as a ford TX3, therefor you can bolt on the Ford cam cover with the ford emblem, there is also the B6 turbo engine from the good old mazda BG and BF familias/Ford TX3 turbos and the bigger B8 1800cc engines, all wich will bolt up the the MX5 5 speed box, these engines are cheap as, just another idea for ya. Below is a pic of an N/A MX5 race engine, this engine would cost a fair amount of $$ but it gives you an idea of what you could do heres a standard MX5 engine heres a picture of the TX3 motor, see the FORD emblem
R100
Another idea is fit a mazda 929 engine out of the early Cosmos and HB luces, now im not talking about the real old versions, this is the 1980 to 1990 models, this engine is avalible in either 1800cc ,2000cc or 2200cc its SOHC and some where 12 valve (econovans HB cosmos), they come either carburettored or injected, the same engine is found in ford econovans/E2000 bongo vans Bolt this straight up the the mazda 5 speed, the same engine is used in the early telstars, and also came out as a turbo, these engines had "magnum" on the came cover and can still be found at Pick a part. I have lots of lovely ideas for engine conversions, i have this engine below for sale, its a quad cam 3 liter injected Mazda engine, can be seen running. still in car. Would look nice under the bonnet, comes with computer loom etc etc everything you need. $
peteretep
my sister has a mx5 and its pretty fast and does burnouts so easily its a 1600 n/a so a 1800 turbo would be awesome as and mx5's are rwd too
R100
What about a lexus V8 they are very very cheap, you can buy this engine in the picture for $1500 with computer and uncut loom for $1600, if you dont want the loom and comp you can pick them up for $1000. bolt it up to a W55 box and you would have a mean skid machine ! these engines are very light, they would weigh the same if not lighter than a 2L ford engine

RT
that wont fit. Its made for a 2.3 Pinto (USA) which looks similar but is totally different. In fact the only cross over parts are the oil pump and dizzy.. But you could find a 2.3 out of a cortina or something and put that in. They are very strong engines, even stronger than the common 2.0. And there are heaps of tunning go fast bits out of USA available. They use em in truck racing and all sorts. But they are very, very heavy. Which totally puts me off them. R100 I was talking to a dude the other day who was putting a BP turbo engine into his escort. That was a conversion that interests me also. But he was having lots of teething issues particularly with the dizzy behing on the back on the engine once you turn it northsouth. That expolrer V6 looks like a nice swap.. looks just like the Mustang V6 actually.. probably is..
R100
When i removed the B6 motor from my MX5 i wanted to fit it into a MK1 escort wagon, but i couldnt find a good enough shell, i ended up fitting it into a very tidy 323 wagon, The MX5 engine has a crank angle sensor, doesnt use a ditributor like the FWD b6 engines, you could fit an after market ECU and run it via crank angle sensor with seperate coils, or just modify the firewall to fit the dizzy. The MX5 engine sounds better! would the ford covers fit huh?

eke_zetec_RWD
Dont turbo it. Same advice I give to everyone Work the 2 litre. Will give you more than enough power in a car that I cant imagine is that heavy and itll sound far nicer i turboed my cortina in a weekend a few months ago and it went hard, ran 9 psi boost on stabdard everything apart from it was a suck through with a single twin choke side draft. only blew a h/g when we got it up to about 16psi. has a T3 with steel internals.
