Cant decide. come down to the options above... if anyone knows about the fitment of gearboxes in a standard manual tunnel then let me know. dont really wanna have to chop it up. Bistro
How much money you got? ultimately thats what it comes down to. a pinto will be your cheapest. cheap parts, heaps of info about mods, not much cutting up. 4age, find rwd sump etc, you going to use a t50 box, good luck finding one. plus all the wiring, ecu for injection and stuff. unless you carb it? 12a, prices of rotarys and going sky high atm. ok power standard, great when ported but fuel could be an issue. gonna have to mount it on an angle to clear the steering rack. some cutting up for the box i think. sr/fj, ecu etc. wouldnt be a bad conversion tho. you just gotta weigh up the pros and cons of each conversion, will it be a daily, also dont forget upgraded brakes, suspension, feul system etc. good luck anyway

davidian
if you already got the box and got plenty of info, i s'pose that 4age is just as good a conversion as any other. wont need to modify things as heavily as you would with a sr/rotang turbo motor. 4age is very well established in motorsport and mods and is a nice little alloy engine with 120 or so hp, plus very force feedable. worth it if youre keen and gonna do it right. Draizuh
hah, the only reason i dont wanna use the pinto is coz so many people do it. im trying to be a little different here!! Plus the Rotor/sr would be too much power, i cant drive for shit

Plus the pinto has way more torque, less revs but. Iv always wanted to do an SR20, Just to much cutting tho. The other option is a celica turbo engine. Toucan
The other option is a celica turbo engine. Yea a 3SGTE would be the shit, probably a bit over the top though. I still reckon your car is begging for a 4AGE

Escorta, is that your car with the silvertop? either way do you have any info about. like weither the transmission tunnel had to be modified for the t50? and what about mounting on the cross member? ROTA NUT 13B
chuck a 12a in it, i've got a mk2 4 door wif a 12a bridge in it, hook second and it steps out sumfin wicked, they didn't have to chop it up too much, could have chopped more tho to make it a bit roomier round the gearbox. i'll try sort sum pics out soon wif mates digi cam. Bistro
A standard 12a is 105 hp and a standard pinto is 100. I thought 12a's had 130-140hp, and 10a's had around 100??

Nah not my car, just a pic I found on the net. I would say yes the trans tunnel would have to be modified to squeeze in the 4AGE bellhousing and gearbox. Another question with 4AGE is do you go 16v or 20v??? Click here
Jerm
yeah rotor would be mean but i think i would go wth the carbed 4AGE .. they are bad... closest thing most of us will ever get to a BDA ... its basically the same thing Was talking to the guy who is helping me with my engine and he was telling me in his day when they built rally cars... BDAs were bread and butter... they just had them.. they didn't even knnow what they cost cos the teams just bought all the shit for them... RT
Most BDA's I've seen got a lot harder than 4AGEs...
Snoozin
Carbied 4AGE has to be the go. They do go pretty well, are fairly light as well. Sound goos with carbs! Go with a 16V, easier to find, cheaper to fix. That one in the pic isn't a silvertop eitherm it's most likely a bluetop 4AGE, indicated by the placement of the dizzy. Draizuh
Oh i decided long a go to use a Red top late model 4AGE if anyone knows of any cheap crash damged 87 to 91 FXGTs, levins or truenos. lemme know [Edit]
Gaz
Yeah they real similar engines. Almost too similar. Back in the day there was a big court case over it as Ford said the 4age was an 80% copy of the BDA engine. Nah standard 12a out of a series 1 seven is 105hp. They respond real well to mods tho and thatll boost power big time.
