Jerm
The 1600 escort autos are still the same as the manual ones right? .... i'm asking because i am going to buy a mk2 ghia auto for $250 wof and reg (expires soon) .... purely because i want the engine to go into my car which has a 1300 ... i'm assuming this will work just need to put a flywheel on and strip some of the extra stuff off the engine i have seen on escort boys ghia 1600? ... this will be all sweet right? ..... anyone want to buy a 4door ghia minus the engine? good condition won't be happening for about a month anywyas after i have gotten it back from the panel beaters where it is getting flared arches and a paint job Cheers Jeremy
Toucan
Kinda off topic here but anyway... You seem to have been panel-beating and painting a bit, I've never seen your car, do you have any pic's? You'll have to get some to put in the gallery once its painted
Pushrod
yep there the same the difference is in the shell and the trans i think all 1600s put out a crazy 84bhp It should have a weber 28/36 DCD carby and some nice extractors
Jerm
the shell? ... yeha i thought they were all the same block aye... so it should bolt stright up... do you know exactly what i have to do? i'm guessing just bolt the flywheel onto the new engine .... what else is involved with the clutch etc? and what is involved with the carby.. cos o have a single throat standard carb currently.. lowlancer
Get a haynes manual off trademe or something for fuk all. They carve, just compare diagrams/instructions with removing manual with removing auto, thats the plan. It's what Im doing with the Moleste. Pushrod
Hey the shell on the autos has a bigger trans tunnel thats all to make way for the auto. There are some differences with 1600 block but i presume its a 711M block since its out of a mk2 They have stronger mains than early xflows from mk2 cortinas and stuff and can be bored out a little more. But you dont need to worry about that. A haynes manual is a good idea
Toucan
Yea haynes manuals are the shit You shouldnt have any problems. Any parts you will need you'll be able to source from your 1300, these engines are so interchangable its not funny.

Pushrod
you should be sweet its really simple just a matter of sorting out the stuff you dont need anymore.
Jerm
yeah so i spose i can just bolt the flywheel on and bolt it up where the old one came off...? the hardest part is goign to be the weber... it has a few more pipes dosn't it? haven't actually had a look but thats what i am guessing
Toucan
My Weber had the same number of pipes going into it. Except there was an extra one on the manifold, but that was blocked off anyway. Only thing that gave me trouble with upgrading the carb and manifold was the bracket for the accellerator cable. The bit on the manifold where you bolt on the bracket was lower and at a different angle, so the accellerator didnt work. I jimmy'd up a new bracket using some scrap metal and now it lines up just as good as the original. Not sure if you'll get this problem, depends on the intake manifold you use i guess. davidian
haha. yep. me3. had this problem as well when i got rid off the single throat puss of a standard carby. had to fabricate the accelerator mount from scrap metal. color coded it to the rest of my mk1 so it aint that bad. How much you want for that ghia shell bro?
