Much appreciated gents! Nearly had a fried puppy this morning, so those plugs will make shielding them a lot easier.
-
Power cables: What's the proper name for the plug that looks a bit like an inverted triangle with the "peak" flattened off - Reasonably common on PCs etc. Next question: Are they available with the cord exiting at 90° instead of straight put the back? I'm after a right side exit and a left side exit.
-
Yeah, get it out and give it a manual clean then reinstall. Clear codes and then start making some phonecalls for pricing of a DPF-ectomy and relevant coding to make sure the ECU thinks everything is sweet. Get an EGR delete + coding done at the same time and you'll be set for life.

VR6 it is then! Probably far too tall for the space available... -

@yoeddynz Still got the little Mazda V6 dimensions handy? -
3-series or small end of the C-class Mercs? The Hyundai Staria van with seats has an IRS setup, but the Staria Load has a live axle.
-
Bit of Lego trickery there - The worst part of it is a distinct lack of 340s, Rover 100s and Mk4 Escorts in this part of the world. Having just finished work for the week and after 20 something hours awake, I haven't looked at any measurements but would an MX5 diff/axle assembly be close to the right dimensions for a GT6?

The joys of late night builds when I was sure there was still a fresh tube of filler... CA with a dusting of baking soda makes something similar to diamonds in terms of hardness - It'll fuck dremel stones/ruin sanding sticks/break drill bits.
-
If you're a complete masochist and get caught short of filler, CA can be your friend but sanding it can be a right bastard. Also, bits of sprue can be partially dissolved in Super Thin to make a paste which is handy for filling as it sands fine and paint takes to it well.
-
The Tamiya Super Thin is the same stuff as one of their other non-glue products - Maybe one of their thinners. The best thing about it, is you can put a tiny drop at one end of a long joint and it wicks along the the entire length. I switched to CA (superglue) for most things and PVA for transparent parts (Canopies/windows etc).

@VitesseEFI will likely have an answer for you when he surfaces.

I finally remembered the example of how different exhausts make a huge difference to the sound - Series 1 Dodge Viper. The drop-top with the side pipes sounds like a rowdy 5-pot (yum!) except it's two 5-pots just out of sync. The GTS hard-top has the exhausts exiting the center of the rear bumper, and sounds totally different despite having no crossover pipe at all. The second generation got a crossover and sounds completely different again. -

I think you've cracked it! The pitch change is a big part of the Porsche sound and as said above, that hill brought it out perfectly. Volume seemed appropriate too - Enough to know there's something interesting going on back there without being obnoxious. -
Had a dig around in the garage today and found some of the hoard... Found another box - Lots of spares and leftovers, but I spied two kits at the bottom pulled them out and discovered roughly a good 200,000 ants... I think they were after the cellulose on the decal sheets. There's an untouched Italeri C-47 kit that needs re-boxing now and the half finished 1/35 Wirbelwind. Other than missing the top section of the turret, it's just a case of throwing the guns in and throwing all the field shit onboard. The first and only time I've had a jam on an airbrush too, roughly 26 years ago.

First delivery in many years just arrived. TBH I thought Academy had long since bitten the dust, but they're still going strong. Better stock up on supplies I guess...
-
Oh how he laughs... If you're familiar with Modern Toss - The badly drawn, subversive comic strips and TV series, then you'll probably be familiar with the Housefly. They've released a 1:1 scale kitset for £18...

At the risk of sounding like a silly cunt, would it be worth seeing if any 914/6 or 911 owners have an old stock muffler stashed in the garage? Even if it's a bit rotten, if you could patch it up enough to try and see what that does? Then clone it if it gives the desired result... Also, could you be oversized for the exhaust volume of the Honda? -
Potentially replicating the BBMF workshops in the 80s. Although the manual on the bench is for a Merlin as fitted to the Spit airframe, remember the RAF still had Shackletons (Griffon powered) in active service until 1991.

That's got some real Low Men in Yellow Coats vibes going on! Fantastic work!

This. The Barry-in-law sold his homebuilt trailer due to lack of use at the time, then ended up buying a Chinese imported one - Actually really well built, except the tie down rails were A: enormous OD, so the hooks wouldn't go around them, and B: were only welded at either end of the trailer. Nipped it off with the grinder and replaced with re-bar welded to attachment points every 200mm to allow angling the tie downs without them slipping along the whole length of the bar.

Random slightly cool stuff you built but not worth its own thread, thread

Excessive flex - lack of a spar to give it rigidity. Balancing it properly will also help. What's it for? -
VW group ones are common, a nice round globe shape and consequently don't take up much room.

The thin black one at the front of the expansion tank? Just had a quick look through a manual, it says it's a bleed line off the thermostat housing. If that's the case, it's been twisted up and out of the way for engine removal.
-
The layout in the back goes - Expansion/header tank connected to the main hardline that has the elbow on the end to the water pump. The black hose circled in red, comes off the thermostat housing at the back of the block and joins onto the other hardline to the front of the car.
