  1. Cheers bro! Hope you found some treasure for yourself.
  2. Cheers all, I have sent emails to almost all the nz windscreen places on google, hopefully one will come up trumps! Other than a few pretty minor things, only the screen and concerns with engine blow by (which im hoping is gummy rings that will free up with more use) is stopping me from driving it a bit more, to find what else is wrong (new radiator?) before go see the wof man. ATT: Upper South Islanders and Upper South Island visitors! If anyone happens to be in Takaka, can they grab me the 2300 Manual that is in one of the op shops? xoxox
  3. wee bit more done, lots of fiddly jobs as i find, fix and bodge bits to reattach. After the oil in air filter drama of last time i tried to turn this around, I installed a catch can on the pcv valve to catch the oil before the carb and managed to get it backed into position. Squinting out in the light of day. I was having some real trouble with the wiring/column switch, i just couldnt figure out what was going on, but i have now figured it out after a eureka moment. It turns out - my car has a high beam relay which is not in any of the diagrams (my '69 125 didn't have one) - all 4 headlights had blown, - the column switch wiring only matches the loom about 1:3 colours! Also, i was using this particular brand of headlights (from the parts car), they bench tested good and looks good, and i was chasing all sorts of theories, because surely all 4 would not just work and then not work without warning or changing anything? Yep. Truly prince of darkness. Managed to get some Cibie semi sealed high beams + the Airport lenses for $30 from trademe, I paid more each for two no name hi/low sealed beams from Repco. Lights are all a gogo, just waiting on some H1 bulbs for the (inner) high beams and some orange bulbs for the indicators. Number plate back on, including the 'jewels' from the parts car - i need a couple of red ones so i can have them as port and starb'rd running lights. Dash all back in and working (except the clock), my aux illary guages are all go too, including a ratty Star Tacho that was bolted to the dash of my blue 125 when i first got it. Interior is all back in too: and stereo all wired up (a switch and headphone jack in the centre console (for ipod or phone) goes to an amp under the passenger seat that powers some boxed 6x9s in the boot), amp is powered off an auxillary fuse box/relays for electric fan and main beams, spotlight etc.
  4. Yes! These are super 80stastic and make me think of battlestar galactica for some reason. My favourite matchbox car need a blow off valve that snorts like a starlion! Neigh!
  5. Same, except the kid was fine, it was meeeee Mrs did bring home BF tho cause that's how we roll, so still counts right?
  6. I was chatting about custom screens with AALAWS too. Price is a bit higher than i want to pay, but reasonable for the work i guess, maybe i will get lucky and be the second guy who wants one! Who knows maybe Smith and Smith or whatever might have one in the back of the warehouse? Hopefully wont need to go custom but I probably will, as they are flipping easy to crack trying to get them out because of the huge curve on the edges and they are just laminated, but not safety glass.
  7. Bit more progress, only fiddly stuff now that takes ages and looks like not much Installed the front seat, its very comfy and I did make brum brum noises. Id been putting it off to make it easier to move around inside etc, but all that stuff is pretty much done. Its not perfect but the sprung base and sliders are in much better nick than the brown one, but the brown cover is probably better. I will use the brown one for a pattern eventually, meanwhile i have a Mexican blanket ready to go. Also found some more treasure in the bottom of the junk in the front footwell of the parts car when i tidied it out to remove the seat, the red tunnel carpet i used had the wee hole for the flap already so it must be from a deluxe too. My tunnel also had the screw holes already, but i cant imagine why someone would have remove it and then put the brown carpet back in over the top? the red tunnel carpet i used had the wee hole for the flap already so it must be from a deluxe too. My tunnel also had the screw holes already, but i cant imagine why someone would have remove it and then put the brown carpet back in over the top? Deluxe level ACHIEVED! Other than the bloody windscreen all i really need to sort out now is electrics, and only thing giving me gyp still is the headlights. The PO had undertaken some hackery to work around the broken column switches (3 position switch in the dash for the indicators AND a foot switch for the lights), and my replacement column switch colours (that i also broke the switches out of) dont line up with the car, nor does the car quite line up with the wiring diagrams i have. On the upside im really good at playing pick-a-path/mazes now. This is from (as far as i can tell) 1961 version of the FSM Titled "1800 with 1800 and 2100 engine, 1800B -2300" , i have seen other (?later) versions with '2300 Special' on the cover that might have the diagram im looking for - any one got one, and happy to send me a high res version There is one on trademe at the mo ($96, lol), also there is one in a Takaka Op Shop for $15, apparently ex-this very vehicle! CASH MONEY PAID FOR THAT BOOK!

    RUST

Rot from the inside out by the looks to the power of a rivet and bad prior repairs. Condensation on the inside of the van ends trapped in the unpainted internal gutter an the skin. Often made worse on campers and mini bus due to all the moist skin bags breathing all up and throught that.
  9. I needed to get a new windscreen for my daily, and managed to convince AALAWS to do it and have him swap the good wind screen in from the parts car. I was prepping the parts screen for removal and managed to remove all the trim apart from a couple of rusty clips ok, and levering the remains of the last clip out I flippin blimmin bloody darn gosh cracked it didn't I, so left it there. The Nautilus just has the original screen so its waterproof and drivable, but has massive wiper gouges and is cracked from when we removed it Fingers crossed I can source another one! despite that huge self inflicted dick punch i got a bit more ore stuff installed, its been slow going as the interior all overlaps a smidge and has to go in in a specific order, as I clean as find stuff not quite in that order. However with the extra weight, the back is starting to come down Back seat in Cut up a cheap rug that didn't suit the house, but suits the wagon, even managed to use a few offcuts for a couple of the front sill covers too. Sweet view of the tat collection from the master suite/coffin position
  10. Started installing the interior, this car came with a tan interior but the parts car came with most of an extra red carpet set in good nick that i have used so far, as well as the red interior it has, that i will use the seats, doorcards and sill covers from. Unsure what to do about sounds as yet, as there are no good spots to put the (most important IMO) front speakers without cutting something rare and finealled. Amp will slot under the seat easy and 6x9s will fit in the side panels in the boot no trouble and they are just vinyl over card and i have a spare. May do a suitcase boom box thing but IDK. Will have another think after the interior is a bit more together Tail lift and tail gate installed, both spares that came with the parts car. I painted the lift with spray cans but just polished the enamel painted gate. The original tail gate from this car that i had carefully welded, bogged & sanded (x100) primed and painted, sheared a hinge pin while bolting it on for the first time... Also test fitted the monsoons
  11. http://www.ebay.co.uk/usr/desimir24?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2754 this dude, cheap too.
  12. re ball joint boots I got some from ebay from hungary or somewhere - the seller was really good and was the only one that had good measurements, reccomended. Only thing is they were yellow. Will try to find linky
  13. Went treasure hunting with EURON8 @ Zebra today, I got a Delta GTi head & manifolds (just because) alternator (for wagon)and starter (maybe also for wagon) + some bits off that cortina for my escort trailer (shocks, rims & a jack) as well as some newish retractable seatbelts. Also been busy cleaning and bolting things back on, and its got its face back on And got as far as the lights and bumper on the rear. Tail gate and lift needs some work before fitting, hopefully i will be able to resist 'over' tidying it. Soon!
  14. Stink, we have parent/teacher interviews tonight in Helensville, so its Curry Leaf instead of Burgers for us tonight. (Solo meet )
  15. Yeah! Twin cams for all the things! I have quite a lot of enginey bits and parts, (I counted 2 complete engines (NFS), 4 heads and two disassembled blocks in the lock up yesterday ) so don't forget to ask in case you need anything What engine code is it (first few numbers/letters stamped on a small flat area by the oil filter)
  16. Im hoping to use it around new years towing the escort trailer to whakatane and beyond, so wagnats should (in theory) be a doddle. hints and tips for nice campgrounds to use around the east cape and etc welcomed, Id better start booking them!
  17. Got the roof paint finally finished this weekend. mrs a found this cool lace in an op shop a while ago, and ive wanted to use it on the car since Unfortunately the spray glue i used to stick the lace down was a bit too 'repositionable' and it didnt turn out as crisp or consistent as i would have liked. Lucky i have a massive roof rack to partly hide it! I swapped a visor with j.e.d. a while ago or a mustard one that it his HQ perect, but it was gloss black I so painted the upper side to match the of white roof, but the underside has a secret special glare reducing coating. Needs some trimming and a bracket before i can fit it (and a windscreen!). The boy and I put the doors on today as well as a few of the very many trims, and Ive just picked up the boxes of trims and random bits from the lockup, at least some of which that i have partially cleaned up to start mixing and matching with bits off the parts car. As you can they do look a bit 'bolted on' but hopefully the colour and shine will even out a bit more when I get around to waxing/polishing the doors and wet sand & buff the paint (you can see a few spots of putty on a couple of the bigger runs!) Car was runnning very rough, idling on 5 and missing etc, but I ixed it with on eor a combination of a - actual new spark plugs instead of carboned up 125 hand me downs, - the 'new' dizzy cap from the dizzy I got from Horopito and - some new spark plug leads - tighten alt belt - also tightened/changed a couple of hose clamps and stuff and shes seems to be running sweet as a nut again so hopefully leaks a bit less now too.
  18. Maybe you should do just that. Bring the Mrs and she can talk about babies and vacuuming or whatever chicks talk about with mine. Better be quick tho cause the closer it gets to finished the more K-Pie thinks its hers...
  19. Me too! They are in excellent condition rust wise. I just wish that whoever painted the car from wine red to blue for Nautilus Marine back in the 70's or whatever had done a better job of the prep - pretty sure they didnt remove anything, just masked off and gave it a quick wipe down, and the paint is all falling off all the nooks and crannies and areas where wax or grime accumulated. (the irony of 'purposely'* doing another shitty paint job to match is not lost on me)
  20. Cheers, Im excited to start putting bits back on! TBH, its a bit rough as my garage booth 'prep' didnt really improve much from last time (weather too shite/driveway too full to move everything out and set up properly) but i did replace the pressure switch on my compressor and put new orings though my cheap paint guns and that made sufficient improvement to feel that dust all though everything isnt so bad... It is semi part of the plan tho, I figure if the body paint is 'a bit iffy' then it wont be such an obvious clash with the signwritten doors which i havnt touched. The tail gate and lift are dark blue and ratty from the parts car stash, but i did paint the bonnet. (I just couldnt help it).
  21. Paint, yay! high build primer. Then the blue. Colour contrast looks good. What's better than eating a mandarin? Need to wait for the paint to dry for a couple of days then i will mask if off and spray it an off white to match how i got it, but just the roof panel not to the bottom of the window line, thusly:
  22. thanks chaps, feels good man. not far away now wanged some colour on the door shuts & etc on saturday, and today got the mrs to drive it up the end of the road and back to turn it around to access the pass side and front a bit easier. Did a mean one wheel peel on the slippery driveway - in reverse. Once its all prepped properly i will line the cave and try reduce the dust and shite i was getting in the paint - my dust 'suppression' consisted of barely even sweeping. Serves me right. Pressure valve on the compressor is leaky too which hasnt helped to get a nice flow!
  23. Mean. i think you made the right choice with the rims.
