  1. I should actually send you a T-Shirt and a guy to hunt down on the Salt, he's an official every year and I owe him some beers.
  2. Please try to get out to Gene Winfield's, google it up. It's the thing on my list I missed, and I'm pretty sure I'm gonna kick myself forever about that because he'll die soon, he's pushing 80. If you can hit Pomona for 1 night on your way into LA, have dinner at http://www.cocopalmrestaurant.com/ you'll be treated, and eat like a king, then do the Wally Parks the next day, hung over, so you can slowly meander and drool over awesome, pioneering shit. http://www.museum.nhra.com/ So much OG drag/hot rod/ OS car club history.
  3. Pulled off the LPG system today - found a nasty chunk of metal blocking one of the T's from the LPG unit. All rather grim, drained the coolant and readied it all for a full flush, new heater hoses put in, took off the thermostat housing, will need a housing too. New radiator hoses will go on when I put that back together. The spare carb I have is off an XD and different at the bottom which I needed so need to get the carb done professionally. Taking out the tank lifted the rear a bit, so now it's got a slight rake, although in theory the blocks in the rear match the springs in the front - which may be down to the shagged old shocks in the front. Those are also on the shopping list. Took some photos, but really, hoses aren't that exciting. Quite excited about the room in the boot though. Looking forward to lining it and putting in a clean little sub setup.
  4. Can one of you hold up your cellphone and record the movie please. Then post it on youtube or summat
  5. real groovy have so many awesome/shite old 70s/80s records at $4 a pop you'll be winning anyway. I accidentally went up there last week at lunch and went back to work an hour late loaded with stuff.
  6. Just stumbled across this, thought i'd let you lot know, might fit in with your next meet. I missed the Auckland screening, bit slutted coz it looks cool, but you guys down there could be keen to get along... http://www.snakeandmongoose.co.nz/
  7. Musiquarium on Dominion Road, just up from Segedins is good for a mix of secondhand stuff around the $10 mark, and a bit of new stuff. Southbound Records, towards the top of Mt Eden Road is ace for new stuff, and it's close to Galbraiths for a brew. Real Groovy though, heaps for cheaps.
  8. so sticking your meat in any old pie is kosher?
  9. Any idea on actual flow rate on your old fuel pump? Can I raise a vulturish bags on it if you're gonna flick it? Thinking it might be perfect to replace my mechanical job and save long dry cranking spells after sessions in storage.
  10. 390s run best with a good squirt of denial.
  11. Have you ever looked at old porn, and wondered what the chicks are doing now? If they're older than your mum? Or your nana? If they're even alive? Looking at this thread was like that. Old, yet still strangely arousing.
  12. Can't find your build thread, hijacking this. Just watched this: http://vimeo.com/82204646 Suddenly got the urge to bag. Hopefully it'll pass, but if it doesn't, i hope you're taking pics of the install process.
  13. Lucky bastard. Touring wagons rule.
  14. Just been watching these: makes me semi-excited about replacing the felts and shit. Do need new door pulls, and door cards actually... https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kby-8FAPpp4
  15. Yeah, cruisomatic, it was really good until I got the car worked on. I got someone to do the sump gasket and I think he lifted it and twisted the motor to do the gasket. I suspect the linkage is kinked or twisted from that. When I'm working the accelerator by hand I have to shove it right down to engage the kickdown link, much further than i'd imagine it'd go when I'm using my foot. Unfortunately I had no kids around today to help me figure that out. Be interested to know how far down your accelerator goes before it engages the kickdown linkage, and then how much movement are you getting. My kd linkage only moves maybe half an inch to 3/4. I have the manual thanks, it's good, but bits like this it's handy to see one that works, or ask someone. What did you end up doing to sort your trans? I redid the vacuum line from the brake booster but hasn't helped, aside from knowing it's done.
  16. This old bitch is chugging along. I did some skids on some gravel a few weeks ago and something went clunk but it seems to have settled down now so that's good. Ignorance is my preferred mechanical solution sometimes. Have noticed it now smells like it's burning trans fluid when i thrash it up the West Coast Road hill. Hmmm. I've got two new guards for the front, got them a while back actually thanks to the OS freight network, which i finally unwrapped and stripped last weekend, only to discover a big bog patch, so i'm picking that out and welding it, just for shits and gigs. If I don't fuck it up I might have a crack at some of the other rust patches popping up. There are a few... Then I'm going to have a whizz at painting, will probably do the roof too, which is all faded. Oh, some oldschool sorts left a card on it the other week up in Mt Eden inviting me to join up here. Might do that. Might just do that.
  17. This has been sitting since I bought a house at the end of last year; driving it here was the last trip it's done in a while. I've been slowly amassing a pile of little bits and bobs to do on it when the house redecoration shit is done and while I build up some enthusiasm. First up was rebuilding the carb, which I did last night, so I chucked the rebuild one back on, put on a new fuel filter, sucked some gas down the line and give it a whirl this morning. Turns out the throttle shaft is fucked in the old carb and gas is whizzing out of it. I have a spare carb somewhere I think, so I'll pull that apart and swap the bottoms over, should do the trick. I have a few new hoses and things to put on it. But I also decided to bin the LPG system because I hate the cunts at the LPG place and I can't be fucked spending hundreds on the system recert when I don't do fuck all miles anyway. So I need to get all the heater hoses and figure out how to gut all that shit. Fun times.
  18. So, i spent the afternoon pulling off the door skin to get the vent window out. It's been flapping around in the breeze since i got it back from the importers. I was guessing some wharfie type got confused by the two windows and turned it to breaking point. turns out the inside mechanism had been fucked for a while, with the back of the screw-drive regulator floating around in the bottom of the door. I'll redrill that and see if it can be re-assembled. pretty sure it can be patched. The pin that connects the vent to the regulator is also broken, which is a bit of a fucker as i'm nervous about welding it with glass in situ, but pulling glass out will mean new rubber which means importing one, which means arsepain. I'm gonna mull it over. Meanwhile having the door off gives me the chance to grease everything, and see how fagged the window felts are. I was planning on doing some of them already, So it might be bite the bullet and do another big import order. Also tempted to begin pulling off the external trim while i've got it all open, because long term, shaving it is on the cards. I also tracked done one of the weird wheezy noises under the bonnet to a split hose connecting the booster to the trans - replaced all that but didn't help the kick down problem. Did manage to leave some smoke at the end of my street though, so I felt a bit happy about that.
  19. Many things have happened. Okay, not many, but some. New manifold and gaskets around the top and the sump, installed a stereo, and now it's in theory better but I'm having a shit of a time with the kickdown not working, so my ability to kickdown, drop smoke and piss off is reduced. This makes me sad.
  20. so, what colour are you going to paint it?
  21. the sooner we're rid of that the generation of 'painting tribal flames on cars/pressing them into panels' bunch of guys, the better. so much beauty, so much cheapened.
