  1. Has this had a replacement cylinder head at all recently?? Since last winter kinda thing??
  2. Chains aren't actually too bad to replace. Have done a set on a VQ35 Elgrand. They set Camshaft Position range / performance fault codes and are gutless don't really miss fire or cut. The codes are the reason people waste time and money replacing the sensors.
  3. If you had a fuel supply issue, there should be a Fuel Pressure Sensor fault code. I'd be very very suprised if there wasn't. Engine could still be lean, however.
  4. Just keep your cooling system in good condition. Don't let the antifreeze go off or become too diluted. Material isn't such a big issue. Brass plugs are softer and easier to distort
  5. Aviation Gasket Sealant is like super flash shellac. Shellac is the business.
  6. They shouldn't need sealant if the are installed correctly and don't distort or bend. However in saying that I use a product from CRC called Aviation Gasket Sealant for all of my cooling system fittings. So that's what I would use. But I'm sure using Three Bond sealant would do the job very well also.
  7. Haha... All good, it certainly sounds like a complex issue... The MAF should be on a reference earth circuit so check the ECU earths for that... If you don't make any progress in the coming weeks, I'm happy enough to pack a car with some of my diagnostic gear and head down south, taranakis not that far for me.
  8. Oh I'm sure they were happy enough to take your money. Pricks. Air flow meter fault codes are set by being out of range on Power Supply, Reference Earth or signal circuits. Being that its specific to air flow meter its not likely to be the Air Temp. Is there 5 wires on MAF? Should have 5 Volts (maybe 12), 0 Volts (no more than 0.5v), and signal. Signal should be low at idle if my memory is right. But not 0v. Increasing with airflow. If you clear the code, does it come straight back without the engine being run. Or does it only reoccur when it cuts. (Under stand you might not know) Unplugging the MAF is a pointless exercise. Doesn't tell you anything.
  9. Sorry to double post. You've just got me thinking and I love this kinda problem, just ask Yowzer, these issues are what I spend my work days fixing. Where are you in the NZ? Have you checked the ignition system? Is it a constant fault from cold start up to running temp? Your description of the MAF sensor is confusing as its quite incorrect. So its a MAF sensor, the are a combined air temp and air flow meter in a housing. They do not work on air pressure, they measure the volume of air moving and then its temp to calculate density. MAP (Manifold Absolute Pressure) sensors measure air pressure, these are a very different sensor. And MAFs are most definitely not optical. All vehicles have fuel filters, there seems to be a new myth about modern vehicles not having them. It will be in tank as part of the lift pump assembly. Being direct injection there should be a fuel pressure sensor on the rail or post high pressure pump. The live data for this needs to be checked. Coolant temp vs air temp (live data) should be compared when dead cold. Should be identical in a perfect world. Within a few degrees in reality. If it was me I'd have a wideband on it and a scope on the ignition coils. This will check the mixture and spark condition. Key is to identify the fault not the symptom as in lean / rich, poor spark, mechanical fault, rather than trying to feel out the symptom of a "miss". Hope this makes any sense / helps.
  10. I'd you disconnect the battery and then reconnect it. Do the symptoms change or improve and then get gradually worse? You need wideband and scan tool for live data. To check ecu decisions, and to check the engine is actually lean. Taking stabs in the dark is a waste of time. If it is logging fault codes you need to rectify the cause of these codes before you can move on even if they are not the cause of the running issue.
  11. You should be able to get a VIN attached to a vehicle prior to a compliance inspection, unsure about the paperwork required but in the case of a modified vehicle you need a VIN for the LVV Cert to be carried out. Ive seen heaps of vehicle in for LVVC prior to their compliance / reregistration inspection.
  12. If the rego is still live. I.e you could just take it for a WOF inspection and if it passes register it. Then I would just modify it and get a LVV Cert completed. Its irrelevant how long its been in unwarranted.
  13. Redline does a range of Shock Absorber in single weights. I use the heaviest stuff most of the time in all the lever action shocks I've played with.
  14. Thanks, getting there slowly. Still a mountain load to do...
  15. I will endeavor to attend events in the future so I can legitimately post photos of this taking part in something.
  16. I brought over a few more bits an pieces from Alfaholics in the UK. I've fitted a complete set of aluminum door seal channels. A few were missing and so the new door seals I had never really worked. I was trying to just find the missing ones but was having no success. I also got a passengers side window winder to replace the non alfa one that had been fitted. Finally got around to fitting the new mirror this morning, the one that was on it was completely fucked. Tried on several occasions to rebuild it but it never could withstand 100 Km/h air pressure. To be honest I don't really like the new one, it looks a bit funny on the vehicle but it's handy to have. Back to the race car.
  17. I decided this is no longer a legitimate way of securing the exhaust. The exhaust mount broke the 1st time I took it anywhere. Cable ties have done the trick of a long time now. Took less than an hour to do a proper job. I also redid the next mount along as that was also broken. Didn't take any photo's though so it probably didn't even happen.
  18. Terrible at updating this thread. Just like everyone else I guess. Back to dailying this bad boy. Photos...
  19. Bending side intrusion is fine. I always bend mine so it moves out toward the door and back in. Meaning in a impact on would need to straighten and push the main hoop and lateral apart. I feel that would help but I'm no engineer.
  20. 100 km/h tickets are the worst...
  21. Anyway, it's a bit rushed, but it's just to keep the car solid and tidyish for the time being. Off to Manfeild for the weekend tomorrow otherwise I'd probably have this close to finished. Excuses, excuses. I just want to drive it before the good weather disappears again.
  22. So a few photo's... Disappeared to the south island for the championship rounds doing V8 things... Missed getting this ready for Leadfoot, which was a tad disappointing. But was pretty busy getting the race car ready for the journey south. Anyway Door's sitting in primer. Ready to be painted. Finished the sill, primed and flattened to merge where the silly trim strip sat down the passengers side.
