  1. Had to do this on my Kingswood. Was a pain in the ass everytime I stopped. I had to pop the bonnet and remove the wire to shut the engine off.
  2. I would say that the standard exhaust system of an EX Lancer would give too much back pressure being small and restrictive. Would that be fair to say?
  3. We've dealt with Dwight for a few years now. To be honest tho we have never used him for light duties. Hes crafted some awesome head/cam combos for our 202, 4G63T, 2.0 Pinto and now 308/355 Holden. If Marsh uses him, he must be ok... Was the guy that works for him the indian dude that use to have the MK5? Cortina with a sleeper Pinto?
  4. Leading Edge Cylinder Heads - http://www.finda.co.nz/business/listing/q28h/leading-edge-cylinder-heads/ Pricey, but worth it.
  5. I wouldnt go that far with your SOHC. Save your pennies and go DOHC Turbo.
  6. I thought that might be the case. There goes that idea. Haha Thanks
  7. What are the rules in regards to changing a 4WD vehicle to FWD? Im looking to see if its possible to change an AWD Libero to FWD using all factory parts. Will this need to be certed?
  8. Haha, now its looking like shit! I sandblastered the throttle body and thermostat housing and then painted them. Satin Silver I think... I just used steel pipe. Staino would have been sweet but didnt have any. Ill find out the size but I think its 32mm.
  9. So, the powerhouse SOHC is back in the hole and running. I started on a new exhaust system and have almost completed it but will wait for my muffler to arrive from Chch. I have a few things to sort out for the engine swap. Fuel Pressure Reg (aftermarket) Smash firewall Make accelerator cable Tidy up wiring Finish exhaust Source radiator hose Fan Do skid If I dont have to do family stuff during the easter weekend I think thats when the swap will commence.
  10. Grabbed it out of a Mercedes. Im no good with euros so I have no idea what model it was. The pump is a Bosch one, as you'd expect being German.
  11. First major issue. Nothing Mr Hammer cant fix. Been shopping at Pick a Part the lats few days. Man they've jacked their prices up. Brought a pretty sweet external fuel pump setup with mount. Modified my AFM box thing. Never liked how massive they were and thought I could fit the unit inside an air filter. This is the AFM chopped up. This is it in its new home. Got a 45 degree silicon joiner yesterday. Had to cut it shorter to work but works fine. Had to stretch the joiner on the AFM side as its just over 3" The ol man came over and had a look at the wiring. Its a bit of a mess but im trying to get some order with it at the moment. I dont think I could cut it as an auto sparky
  12. So, continuing on from my last post I fixed the clutch issue. The post before that I mentioned that I had other plans for the wagon. Get ready for the anti climax..... ***TWIN CAM*** I picked up a 4G63 DOHC from Christchurch thanks to DJZ. Came with almost everything to make it run. It was looking pretty weathered externally so I bolted the engine to an engine stand (thanks Chaos) and started wire brushing the block ready for paint. I also removed a few parts that I would be re using and sandblasted them ready for paint. I had a set of RWD extractors lying around and thought if I got some FWD extractors I could make a FWD/RWD set. Difference between the two extractors. Chop chop Not pretty but functional (hopefully) For the inlet manifold mod, I got DJZ (lovely bloke) to do the cut and shut thing. Decided to replace the timing belt and tensioners. Also replaced the water pump. The seller had written on the rocker cover "Engine gets hot. Headgasket?" but as I removed the old water pump the issue was the pump had rusted out and broke most of the fins/blades off. Doing the cam belt. All done The hardest, longest job doing this conversion (so far) were the water pipes. I still want to use the heater so I made some new water pipes that should do the job. Relocated the thermostat housing to the side. Took this week off work to test fit the engine in the wagon. I wont be fitting the DOHC permanently yet. Just wanting to see what the issues are going to be and then pull it out again. A lot of work for bugger all but meh. So, old engine out. New engine in. Ive got the ol man coming over tomorrow to help me figure out the wiring side of things. Still have a bit to do to get this going. Ill list them for my sake. Fuel pump Ignition leads Accelerator cable Fan Other bits that ill forget
  13. Awesome work! I would suggest asking the mods to add that stuff to the Mitsi swap thread in the tech articles section. Very handy information. I was the one who questioned him about it being LSD. I knew it wouldnt have been. Pretty sweet still.
  14. Starion fronts are slightly shorter and fit the sigma strut. See if there are listings for low springs for Starion. You could maybe get some standard Starion fronts compressed. Ive got compressed VW Golf fronts in mine. Dont fit great, but they fit. Rears are different between wagons and sedans so I dont know. I think they're the same as Lancer. I run cut springs with short shocks in my Lancer.
  15. Yep, most likely was me, mashing gears and destroying synchros as Tuesday was the day the clutch packed a sad.
  16. 50mm? Shit. My wagon is as low as can possibly go with standard struts and small wheels and my crossmember is bang on 100mm. Ive never heard of a wagon of that year being 4 speed. Not saying that they never came out 4 speed. Just thinking maybe the crossmember/motor/gearbox was from something else.
  17. So, I noticed my car was getting harder and harder to shift gears the last few weeks. I had maxed the adjustment on the cable, then i made a spacer to get even more travel, till something collapsed and then I had no clutch at all. My poor synchros. Pulled the gearbox off expecting to find a poked pressure plate. Pplate was good. Pulled the pplate off to check clutch plate. Clutch plate good. Looked at the clutch fork and release bearing face. Good. By this stage I enlisted some help from my cousin (brake and clutch man) He looked at the pedal box, clutch and pressure plate, cable, etc. Good. Wasnt till he pulled the release bearing off the box when we found this. The clutch fork faces had collapsed. My cousin had never seen this happen. Luckily I brought a brand new replacement a month ago for no real reason. Reassembled the car and I now has clutch. Parting Pic Its sad when the two cars you own are both sitting on axle stands!
  18. From what I can gather the carb off the 4G54 is a 32/35. I assume you would have to get it re-jetted to suit the 4G63. This (i believe) would be a bolt on upgrade whereas the Weber would need either an adaptor plate or your inlet manifold modified. Check out Triggers build //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/23341-triggers-ex-lancer-starmax/page__hl__starmax The Weber carb is a tried and true method where the 2.6 carb may be a gamble.
