  1. Is it a Chinese piston? Last big bore scoot engine I did with china parts , the piston was too tight in places and I had to creatively "machine" some extra clearance It then survived a trip around the east Cape at wot for 3 days so it must have been good
  2. So you are talking about an IRS center and just modifying the drive flanges on the diff? If so I think you would be ok cert wise as nothing really bad would happen if it broke, unlike a solid axle rear end where the axle can come out if it breaks in some situations
  3. technically it would need cert, as it is a structural mod due to the guards not being welded on any more , even if the guards are not very structural Depends how legal you want to be I guess. If you need a cert for other mods it would be easy to get that certed at the same time
  4. I had one, it was the worst car I ever had I hated it so much I gave it a considerable amount of shit like full throttle no clutch shifts and many rev limiter skids. It popped a coolant hose off on the way to work one day and I just kept driving until it seized. It did that 3 or 4 times until I got to work I cant remember what happened to it, probably got sent to the wreckers
  5. K member mods. Because the torsion bars are gone, ive got rid of the torsion bar adjusters in the arms, welded in some bush housings into the arms to suit B2000 spring eye bushes, seam welded the k member, ( the factory welding is shit in places) and welded some bushes to make the torsion bar pin holes the right size for 5/8 bolts today's job was to add some extra mounts to support the arm better. I haven't been looking forward to this job because I couldnt think of a good way of doing it that doesnt look stupid. I've been copying a coilover conversion kit you can buy from someone called "hemidenny" in the states That kit has some bolt on brackets you have to drill and weld crush tubes into the chassis rails which I didnt really like as the chassis rail is kinda far away from the arm pivot. So I did it this way by attaching some heavy wall tube under the k member with 5mm tabs to attach to the through bolt. Its tricky to get in the right place, too far inboard and the steering hits them, too far out and it restricts droop travel cause the arms hit the tube Anyway that's done so I can send the k member to get powdercoated
  6. Has to be vac rated hose or the oe one. There is no way around it unfortunately
  7. The best thing is we can fit it at time of inspection and dont have to wait for the plate to come back then get the vehicle back again to fit the plate. For some reason people are happy to bring a car for inspection but get a lot of people complaining about having to come back for the plate to be fitted, it always seems to be a hassle to organize a time, tell people I'm at the shop from 8 till 5pm and 3 of them will turn up at 4.57PM , etc
  8. I wonder what the reasoning for that was? Better weight distribution? Seems like a lot of work to just knock the radiator pipes and plugs off when you go over a bump
  9. Been busy, anything that fits in the blasting cabinet has been pummeled with sand and then painted on the "eyehook 3000 painting device" When I painted the engine I mucked around for a while removing markings off all the bolts then blasting them and painting them while they were on the engine but then it looked like a tractor engine, so I ordered a whole lot of new bolts from a company called www.fasttrade.co.nz which you can order everything online, handy. fitted offset bushes in the top arms so I can have more caster , painted them , fitted them, turns out they are shorter, fucked around finding washers to pack them out, didnt like how they sat and they didnt tighten up very well, so pressed them back out and fitted some standard ones instead. Also found the thermostat housing I'd ordered has the wrong bolt pattern, dumb. 3 steps forward, 1.8 back...
  10. It says something about high tensile bolts being not good for cyclic loading, which doesnt really make sense in most situations, once the bolt is torqued correctly it is clamping components together, you aren't relying on the bolt only in many situations so there isn't any cyclic loads I would think?
  11. Valve bounce makes a terrible noise. I had a valiant that would do it at about 4800rpm . I was trying to impress a girl one night and I used to shift just as it made the noise, she thought I couldnt drive and was graunching gears It was auto...
  12. It's never been an issue before, willwood and many other aftermarket calipers dont have dust boots on the pistons However if the caliper is an oem one and was designed to have dust boots or slide boots then it is likely it would fail, I've never had that come up before
  13. Fraser cars use that setup but with a lower arm that takes a spherical bearing like that. Lvv rules require a safety washer to prevent the joint from being able to pull through if it gets worn
  14. That's funny I cant see any of the gold plating? Or the diamond encrusted manifold nuts?

I've driven a couple of cars with them fitted and they always seem to drive like a carb with the choke stuck on I also enquired with the local holley distributor about purchasing a holley version of the same thing and his response was something along the lines of "no, I wont sell those things, they are a fuckup, why would you want to put the ecu on the hottest most vibration affected area of the car?" Makes sense haha
  16. In nz, for cert that design would have to be approved due to its complexity, I dont know what the rules are like over the ditch but that would be very difficult to get legal here
  17. Have you run your plan for your brake system past your engineer/whatever the australian equivalent is called?
  18. Home again. Real pleased with the results and it cost less than I thought it was going to, as I'd asked Grant to paint the wheels and a couple of other bits, and respray the black parts that got primer overspray at the blasting place It's hard to get a good pic of the colour as it seems quite different depending on light and the camera Now i just have to not fuck it up too much as I put it back together
  19. I'll see if I can find the torana guys number, it was a while back
  20. Pick it up tomorrow. Maximum fizz levels
