    4age fault

Im just going to throw a wild suggestion in here. Cam timing slightly out causing an error between the cam and crank angle sensors? Do the 4AGE's have "diagnostic connectors" which will lock the timing when running so you can see if it holds the correct value? Maybe the crank angle trigger wheel is different between the 2 bottom ends?
  4. Yes. Just chipped a tooth off first gear on my 4th launch of the day.
  5. Set up launch control for lols. Tested it on the way home from hell pizza......FUCK ITS AWESOME! Me likey lots. Plus with the new flatter torque curve, it has no problems smoking up out of intersections
  6. OK Updatey time. - New gearbox is in and is a little whiney but ill cope - Gear linkage doesnt like being 'massaged' to fit the new box....so need to buy a new linkage - New clutch is much better to drive with and isnt set in concrete - New Bilstein struts are comfy and make me happy - Front springs need to come down an inch to make everything look right - Sway bar bushes are creaking like a bitch so will have to get under there and sort that asap - Link G4 has been installed and tuned The new ECU has transformed driving the car. Its back to being a smooth torque monster instead of a hesitant wheezy prick of a thing. I didnt actually make any more power with the new ECU but thats hardly suprising since the car is getting up in the k's and i havnt actually done any significant engine mods. Was hoping for 130kw but 120 will do the job, especially considering the relatively massive drivetrain losses in the 4WD system. The top line is the Link G4, middle line is a run i did at 130,000kms and the bottom incomplete line was this mornings run on the factory ECU - so you can see it really wasnt performing right. We only ran it to 4,000rpm as it was hitting speed cut. Long story. It just was, So im nearly happy again. Now i need to get the bodywork fixed up, lower the front a smidge then......PUT A TURBO ON IT
  7. Have seen and driven a Subaru 6 speed full of ATF. Was pretty mint TBH. Blew 4 engines and the box is still good. Then again, those boxes run an oil pump and forced lubrication.
  8. OK. Everything mechanical thats going to get done to this car is pretty much done now. Only thing missing is the rear discs and vented fronts but thats an easy bolt on mod. So now its time to strip it apart and do the bodywork/rust. Am holding off on that until i have figured out if im moving back up north or not. In the meantime, its pink stickered and ive lost my licence. Put 2+2 together there. Come September I'll start ripping it to bits. Then i can start building it properly instead of just slapping it together to make sure shit works. Stay tuned.
  9. Its far more of a cunt on the twin turbos and the 6 cylinders. Easiest to pop an engine mount and jack the motor up to clear the frame rail. Single cam EJ16/18/22 is a ten minute job. Single cam EJ15/20 or EL15 is a little longer but still easy.
  10. Im in the process of binning all the nolathane i put into my wagon 2 years ago. It was the genuine red stuff from autolign. The front LCA bushes pulled through the mount on one side. They also creaked like a bitch so had to be re-greased every 9 months. My front sway bar bushes have just started creaking again so ill be changing those out for factory ones soon. Only place ive used nolathane with success was in the steering rack mounts, and thats just cos the factory ones arent quite grippy enough. Ill also be using them for my rear diff mounts since that joint experiences no movement. Might be good stuff for a race car, but when subjected to daily k's it just doesnt seem to last. Ive had exactly the same problems UJ described with my rear sway bar bushes wearing into oval shaped holes.
  11. Im losing faith. Tempted to pick up another car in fact which means this one would have to go. Would anyone want to buy a carbed 2.2 and gearbox ready to drop into any EA81 Leone?
  12. LOL Thank you uncle darth. The door and springs have been most excellent! Will have to give you a blast in it next time your in Palmy
  13. Ah yup, seems it was only the old Lucas stuff and some other weirdos that needed to be earthed so disregard my bad advice. Wrong or broken ballast is heaps more likely
  14. If youve moved the coil - is the coil and bracket still earthed to the body?
  15. Kinda sick of having to put this at the start of every post since it makes me sound like a knob....BUT...On 1994+ Subarus you can bridge a couple pins and get the ABS light to flash out an error code. On 89-94 models, the ABS controller has a small LED on it which flashes out error codes constantly when a problem is detected. Have used this method to diagnose a faulty sensor on my old GT. Maybe Nissan has something similar?
  16. A man once commented that the Dellorto is the better built Weber. I semi trust his judgement. However - I run down draught and find the ease of parts with the Weber to be most excellent
  17. Well the cars been in bits for pretty much 3 weeks now. Im seriously missing driving it and this breaks all previous records for amount of time ive gone without driving it in the last 3 years. Bilstein struts are in...and holy shit its comfy again!!! I mean it wasnt that bad with the Tein adjustables, but now its silent as i dont have to hear the pillowball mounts knocking away when its cold outside. Also ride height is pretty sweet. Drove it 200 yards then put it back on ramps and ripped the gearbox out. Chur to Coldsparkle for help removing the old box, extra chur to Shaven Yak for being a transmission jack for fitting of the new box. Its currently hanging off the back of the engine while ive been waiting for a clear day off to do the rest of the work. New Exedy clutch fitted. New lower control arm bushes to be fitted. Im aiming to have it all done for midday tomorrow so i can take it into the tire shop and get a pair of new fronts fitted and an alignment. So - things to do in the morning; * Install all bell-housing bolts and starter motor * Install gear linkage and bushes * Install center prop shaft and heat shields * Install lower control arm bushes * Re-fit gearbox crossmember and pitching bar * Connect reversing lights up for the first time in 2 years * Re-fit exhaust and poo up all the joints for maximum sealage * Vacuum the bees out of the air filter Should be able to do all that in 4 hours yeah? Then in 2 weeks when my Link arrives from teh factory, I'l wire that bad boy in and then its off to Keiths for a spot of tuning.
  18. Sat idling, it should at least get warm with no thermostat? Might also give this a crack on the hatch to get the last of the stop leak crap out of it.
  19. This is relevant to my interests for future possibilities
  20. I still cant believe your going ahead with this. Typical joker style tho i guess
  21. Link G4 Extreme on the way. Cant help feeling i just pissed away 2k but at least i can retain the stock ECU and just move the G4 to whatever car i buy in the future. New struts and clutch are also ready to go in so its going to be a busy weekend!
  22. Dont know shit about mitsubishis, but on Subarus - the trans will behave exactly the same way if the TCU isnt getting power. The default mode for the subaru electronic control autos is to stick in 3rd when no control signals are sent. Id start by checking power at the TCU then making sure the loom plugs going down to the trans are nice and snug.
