Discuss here about Yoeddynz's little Imp project...
cubastreet replied to yoeddynz's topic in Project Discussion
I remember talking to my boss in Manchester about the morgan he used to own. He went all misty eyed as he described it. Then he snapped out of it and told me how much more practical his Fiesta was. Poor, broken man. We're such romantics. Anyway back on topic: did you know the imp was based on a fire engine? -

I took it on my phone camera. We've got gold wing imp boxers living in the woods. -

can you change a valve stem without removing the tyre? -
gee i have a staking set somewhere, in one of those boxes of stuff that might be useful some day.

I bet it'll do 8k.

The tig torch is extra. Scratch start isn't the easiest way to learn tig but better than nothing.

Kawasaki H2 engine would be good for a light car - 154kW, 58kg. Not sure what it would take to get it up to 240kW H2R spec?

Looks good mate. Let's do a midnight run over the hill. I'll have a look but I don't think I have any sump pans (lots of stuff got stolen for scrap in porirua) and if I do it will be ea81, but maybe they're the same.

I was welding 12mm steel vertical and upside down, it's not like the gasless stuff or plain wire with gas. It doesn't seem to sag or drip.

Surprisingly cheap at boc https://www.boc.co.nz/shop/en/nz/mig-flux-cored-welding/mig-mag-welding-wire/flux-core-welding-wires-fcaw/magmate-71c-mild-steel-mig-wire%3A-15kg-spool

Nah 20 years is a new car that only needs a wof once a year.

When I was at tech, some rep brought in a roll of Flux core wire that also used shielding gas. It's party trick was the beautiful welds in all positions even with me holding the torch. Anyone know this voodoo wire?

Actually I think that's the yanmar part # @UTERUS hitachi S114 443 or S114 443A -
The two stroke tuner's handbook by Gordon Jennings is a good read too. It's pretty addictive. Carburation gets pretty tricky if you want to be able to pootle around slow and also have a good top end.

Just the two long ones that held it together and the two that held the brushes plate on. The little bearing cap seems to be spot welded. I made a shim for the top of the worn negative brush to get the digger back on the road but even after a good clean the solenoid doesn't always engage properly. $200 new one from America is looking like a good option. -

How do I get the end cap off to change the brushes? And why did Hitachi put in two +ve brushes but only one minus? -
https://www.xcelarc.nz/wp-content/uploads/2019/08/XA-MIG200WRZ-K_-Info-Sheet.pdf It's an inverter, I don't think I've seen a multiprocess transformer welder. MIG needs constant voltage and TIG constant current and that's easier with electronic trickery.

Not sure if it's in my head, but I seem to get cleaner welds and less spatter from inverter mig. They even weld nice and clean on pure co2, I'm currently using argoshield but it doesn't seem any better whereas transformer migs seem to weld cleaner with argon in the mix. You don't have the huge inrush current needed to saturate the transformer core with electromagnetics either so they're easier to run off generator or inverter.

My parents gave me this for my 21st It came with a card that says W.W.I MAJOR JENNINGS D.S.O. Google wasn't around when I got the watch, but now it is, so o know he was a surgeon. http://www.maltaramc.com/ramcoff/j/jenningsjw.html

I think so, if it's the original. There won't be that many around that don't need work.
