  1. yeah my shed's in newtown i live in mt cook my wof goes until 27th so good to cruise.
  2. Planning to have my car off the road for 3 months from around then when my wof runs out, so I can put in new engine/gearbox/brakes/try to make the front camber negative. may have to sit in baqck of someone's car and hallucinate.
  3. Looking pretty sweet. Wish I had a garage / didn't have so many coffee machines and roasters in the shed to work on and I could make better progress on my brumby. Putting ea82 flywheel and the turbo 220mm disc in mine. Same as the clutch nissan used for half their line at the time skyrine / sirubia etc so should hold together for my build.
  4. most old soobs including the leones have the r160, but I think some of the more powerful ones use the r180, so there should be a few about.
  5. Has it been that long since an update? Did plenty of welding on the new one, and now it's my daily. Drove it to Auckland last weekend. It didn't miss a beat and came back with a door stencil. It's got a roll bar now too, and impreza seats mounted on the original rails. Today I got new front strut inserts for $30+ each! While I was in the hutt I thought I'd pick up these too: EA5speed front case, EJ FWD (lower) gears and AWD transfer case. and matching viscous rear Should keep me busy for a bit. 5 gears will definitely help too.
  6. good to meet you guys, look forward to kaitaia (ipod) shuffles next time
  7. i'll come along. why don't we drive somewhere and set off some fireworks after?

bought 1kg at pak n save last week for $8
  9. Sweet... My first bike was one of these styles Also my first engine rebuild and broke my first ankle falling off it. was pretty sweet, but 2 gears - one too high and one too low. brakes were fred flintstone style as shoes were worn out. still in my old man's shed somewhere...
  10. Where the metal overlaps across the tray near the back, a little bit of that strip near the front of the tray and down the back and bottom of the front wheel arches. Mostly surface rust apart from that. I just sprayed the underside with chain bar oil and have urethane to do the tray. Scored a rollbar for it too.
  11. CV Central Ltd 7 Kaiwharawhara Road Kaiwharawhara, phone : 44996606 This guy removed my cv from the halfshaft for $5 bux or so a few years back.
  12. You got any subies on the road at the moment? My brumby is so nearly back on the road. All rust is out, ready for paint but it's pretty much raining every day in Wgtn and I don't have a garage. Got a road trip planned first week august to see pixies concert in chcch and also pick up a rollbar i bought on tardme so it's gotta be going by then. You don't need any 1400 headgaskets do you? pm me if you do.
  13. Megasquirt! If EFI is set up right, you don't need dual maps. If you want to cruise, go easy on the pedal. Plant your foot and it'll squirt heaps of juice in there.
  14. awesome, well done. stereo's be a great idea, just make sure you use polyprop/kevlar cone speakers not paper ones.
  15. I'm entertaining my old man most of weekend he's up for teh 7s, but if you like reggae, then one love on saturday daytime is your thing http://www.eventfinder.co.nz/2010/feb/w ... -love-2010
  16. Restarting work on my '81 subaru brumby. It's the same as waimaks but red.
  17. The mig did a good job on the holes, but found some steel down the back that needs to be replaced. Good thing it's a long weekend in wellington.
  18. Want to fill holes left when removing trim from along sills. What's the best/easiest method? could just use mig to cover them over directly but is there a better way?
  19. I've seen conversions people have done with a EJ22 into a brumby, Phiziinza did one in OZ with a cool hybrid gearbox: http://offroadingsubarus.com/ej22swap_f ... ngine.html A quick google brought up this thread which says the quad cam won't fit, only the 2cam EJ22: http://www.ausubaru.com/forum/showthread.php?t=15828 The brumbies are just cut down wagons, chassis is the same. Everything you can do to an EA81 car you can do to an 82+ brumby. lots of info on http://www.ultimatesubaru.org/forum/ if you haven't come across that already. I so want a good set of heads for my EA81, an EJ definitely won't go into my 81 brumby without help from
  20. I know a guy who was selling a turbo ea82 rally spec, approx 150 at the flywheel. Let me know if keen, I'll se if it's still about. It has sat for a number of years though, so condition a bit unknown. Siamese exhaust, so this engine doesn't have huge power potential. I think the WRX spec ones were ~200HP Any brumby '82 on will fit an EJ straight in. Best option for power + reliability, the EA82s blow a gasket at the first sign of overheatin I'm told.
