  1. The white ones go well. I agree with others- avoid big chrome wheels ! Maybe I'm getting old but I think its actually too low. Maybe up 1 inch? Right now wheres my mug of Horlicks gone?....
  2. Widened steels! Actually no, second thoughts -stick to alloys- I'll do the steels when I get a Mk1.....
  3. We are hoping it'll stay under 10 tonne as its a big jump in RUCs from 10 to 11. It started at 4.8 tonne Tare weight - lets say 5. With rough adding up of things added - weights at or above what they are I I think they are as we weighed most things out of interest roughly. Steel frame work 500kg ply cladding 390 flat roof ply 95 pitched roof 80 bedroom ply 60 rimu floor 200 rimu walls 300 pine walls 50 stove 40 stone under stove 40 oven 40 macrocarpa rafters 135 ceiling ply 60 benches 40 dining table 20 toilet 20 belly box 60 Battery/solar panel 50 glass etc etc... phew.. so add that lot up and its over 2 tonne and thats without the window frames and glass, internal walls, woodwork, door, cabinets, drawers so say add another tonne- which would be way enough. So hopefully it might even be under 9 tonne. We'll weigh as soon as we get the cof. Not paying more RUC than needed.
  4. Glad we have a Hino- cause the ads were sooooo cool !.... I love the way Japanese say Ranger... sounds like ninja. http://youtu.be/2-tn4_r9Xmg http://youtu.be/TRfCVuXZf4E
  5. ^ all this plus how people just cant stand being behind an old car on the road no matter how fast its going! I could be sitting on 110 and still get passed only for the passing car to slow back down. Its as if most people think they must be going slower because there is an old car in front of them?
  6. don hoff comes up to blenheim once every 2 weeks or so- depends on bookings. He'll do a group test at the blenheim testing station so you can get your wof there too. This is what i have heard as i have yet to ring him. There is a fella - kendle/wendle bradly from nelson who also comes over. I have heard good and bad things about both of them from many different sources about blenheim. Never know who to listen too but i guess if your car will pass it'll pass? I think kendle is cheaper by 70 bucks. Interesting is that they share the same business card..and i've heard that don gets stroppy if kendle takes his trade- but again this is just what i have heard.
  7. So true. People wasting their one given life driving souless, shitty, modern cars because of the fear an older car may breakdown or something. Or the her indoors saying "ewww, but its old, it hasn't got air conditioning, it hasn't got powersteering, it smells of petrol, you see me in one of them- what would my friends think!.."
  8. ha yeah- could just stuff a mattress into space next to carb Anyway- just bought a pod filter from littlereds on trademe. 25 bucks inc postage and the do colours other than bloody red! Cheap enough to chop up. I'll cut /shut it and post the process up here for other future cheap bastards like me to copy.
  9. Hiya! Welcome along to this crazy place. You must get in contact with Dave (Avengertiger). He lives near Mapua and as his name suggests owns an Avenger Tiger back in Ireland but has moved here to live. Top bloke and loves old cars. Would be a good source of info/ideas about Avengers. alex
  10. Cheers Richard for link to Collin with our old 2500S estate. I have sent him a PM. Its good as we had lost his contact details ages ago and wanted to find out how old Hoe was doing!
  11. Now start saving for one of these.... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 953389.htm
  12. Ha- you were as excited as a school kid with a new toy yesterday. This car is mint and makes me want another. We went a cruise in it last night to get a gas bottle etc and its sooooo cool! It is the cleanest sharpest trump saloon I have ever seen this side of the RSA carpark. It was good meeting you too and your a very well behaved young man - my parents enjoyed dinner chatting away! Was cool to have Viva lined up with another classic. what surprises me is how much bigger my Viva seemed than it should be next to what I have always considered a big car. Glad you got to Picton safe and sound.
  13. Yeah I have thought about that- but would want something really easy to remove as the adjusting screw for carb mixture is right up near radiator. I had to chop down my stubby screw driver to get in there - its now like 50mm long. I'll do another measure up tomorrow.
  14. I want another Triumph. Today in Blenheim I saw not one but three! And one was a Mk1 in dark olive green...oooohhhffff. So sexy. They are such sweet cars. What thousand dollar supercar wrote above is bang on! These old cars rock! And of old cars to use as dailys I don't think many are as cruisey as Triumph saloons with a straight 6. I think that is why there are still many driven about - throughly modern driving car wrapped up in REAL CAR style! Our last one... http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C32656# I want another one day.
  15. It was a useless listing eh! How do people expect to sell things with no details or photos?!!!
  16. Cheers for ideas.Yeah I looked at getting a mini filter from UK but they all have closed off fronts. I have the feed hole in front panel and fancied making something like this one here to make the most of the cold air feed. I would just buy one of these but almost all seem to either be too long, too big in base diameter, too big in the neck, too expensive. And something that bugs me is half the filters listed on trade me have no dimensions at all- inc the neck size?!! For example check out this idiots listing... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... =376580031 Sure I'd buy a big K&N panel filter but they are bloody expensive too- I'm am on a teeny tiny budget.
  17. Air filter material like that in K & N and similar style filters- where could I get some? I want to make my own pod filter to suit my SU carb. I could buy a cheap pod filter and hack it apart but would rather just start with the material in a sheet. Any ideas?
  18. if you slot both the front engine brace and the engine member 5 mm each so you can move engine forwards 10mm and then slot in similar way the box mount you may be ok. The propshaft sometimes only goes in 1/2 to 3/4 into the box on the splines depending on box and car. Make sure to keep it out just enough to allow for it to slide in when axle moves right up. Check by removing springs and lifting axle up to be sure. You can shorten later series 2/3 box shifter housings and move lever forwards 100mm to suit older rx's or other cars.
  19. I'll pack them out on the hub so when I slide the drum/hub on it wont push grease of bearing into drum. cheers. And bare feet- man I'm loving being back home in Marlborough, the weather is so mild! Its only a month away to the shortest day as well. July will be the coldest month yet to come but for now I love the fact that most days here are sunny and that shorts/teeshirt are all thats needed.
  20. Now we have a very clean brake assembly with lovely dry, clean linings, a new wheel cylinder, the other honed nicely and rebuilt. And happy to say that refitting those hefty springs was so much easier than I thought! Fitted new seals as well. The one on the end of the axle tube was knackered so no wonder hub was filled with oil rather than grease. Question time for the truck mechanics out there.... How much grease should I pack around these bearings?... To some this might be a stupid question but I've never packed out such big bearings on such a heavy weight truck and I don't know how much to use. Do I pack the whole hub full or just smother the bearings themselves and no more? I don't want to risk getting any into drum when I lift the bloody heavy thing back in place over the axle tube. Once this side is finished we will check the other side out. Luckily that side will be in the sunshine and the next few days will be fine.
  21. I think there is a thread somewhere for overseas project threads? But I couldn't find it. Please move this link there if someone knows what thread I'm on about. Anyway- I was linked to this by a friend in blighty. Its another mad creation from Norway. http://passionford.com/forum/restoratio ... e-fun.html Some pretty full on work gone into it. It must be those long winter nights. Apparantly Scandinavia has one of the highest rates of suicide in the world and large drink problems due to the lack of sunshine in winter. But these guys ignore it and just fettle away in the workshops
  22. 1800 axle will take plenty. well enough for older engines of the day. Droop snoot group in england have a forum and they'll know more as fair few of them race/rally the cars. Fella on vauxhallviva.com forum has fitted a electric power steering system like many escort owners have done. Fits easy as fair bit of room under dash.
  23. Its great to see a stock Anglia! It looks great. If I were you I would tidy any rust etc and blow some paint over it trying to keep it the same aged look as the rest. Ie; try to keep it looking like it hasn't ever been touched since new. That would be cool.
