  1. yo, Shane at my old work knows quite a bit about these engines, he'd be worth having a chat to. He's been racing one in classics quite successfully for a few years now though hes just lunched the crank. Hes got all the engine machining gear in his shed at home too, so he's cheap labour if he's got the time. M S Coombes Ltd 344 St Asaph St. Tell him Rich sent ya. Edit, or do what gaz said.
  2. my sister had a similar problem about 4 years ago with her kp60. some cunt in a courier van cleaned her out, her car got written off (rightfully so, it was completely fucked) and their company offered her $500 to buy a new one. She got an independent valuation that came back surprisingly at $3500 due to her starlet being MINT less than 60km on the clock from memory, so she got paid out $3K, not bad considering it was before they were worth anything. You'll be right. Cant help but feel your pain tho bud.
  3. yeh im free and keen as to help as well, but my lack of a licence means im not gonna be any good to ya either. / spam.
  4. to drill 4x108 to 5x114.3 u'd have to plug or weld a hole. welding SG type cast iron is a complete no no and im not too sure on the legality of plugging on the hub mounting face. be interesting to hear how you get on.
  5. Mk2/3 zephyr hubs go straight onto capri struts & keep the offset similar., not sure about 1&4. I've talked to a guy who put some onto mk 1 escort struts with a sleeve made for the stub axle. I've put XD falcon hubs onto the capri as they bought the mounting face in so i can run wheels with more dish. the outer bearing is the same part as the outer capri bearing and the inner one needed recessed and sleeved. and everyone knows capri struts are a good upgrade for escorts. problem now is finding all the parts everyone else needs. good luck dude
  6. they make good whiteboards.
  7. this reminds me of high school physics, every year the first thing they say when you start a new subject "forget what we taught you last year, that was just to teach you the principle, this is what really happens"
  8. damn, wont be able to make it this time. there'll be plenty more chances to meet you all im sure.
  9. wouldnt make a difference, the gears would need to be recut with the angle going the other way, or a thrust washer on the other side of the gear to stop the charger spitting a shaft out the end. I'm real sure these have sealed bearings that are cunts to get replacements for too. could maybe re-machine it to take different bearings that can handle thrust in the other direction. if thats what you think the problem would be. though i guess swapping the gears over would do the same thing.
  10. yo, looks like your hoarding a nice arrangement of parts, good score on the interior. It'll be a nice clean car by the looks of it.
  11. yeh, thought id check, i've got all the materials to run 3/8 lines, threw all the ford crap out, not worth working with. thought id check about pressure loss running with 3/8 lines, but she'll be right, back to Gaz's situation. cheers.
  12. what size fuel lines do all you guys use? 5/16 or 3/8?
  13. reckon all you'll be able to take out is perhaps the carpet, centre console and the parcel tray, you'll need the jesus handles and the door cards.
  14. My capri will be a while away yet, especially since im not allowed/cant lift anything over 2kg with my left arm and am running out of money fast, doesnt really matter, its at least 6 months before i can try get my licence back anyway, cortina needs a recored radiator, new rings/ bearings and the shifter fixed.. another coil lopped off the back.... guess i'll just offer morale support to all you guys.
  15. I'm starting to think about wiring my car and as the wiring loom off my lexus 8 has not been cut at the firewall as per usual, and im using a link, I thought id check to see if anyone (pref local) doing a 1uz conversion with standard gear and a cut loom wanted to swap? I'll put a photo of it up later, clearly I dont want much hassle as i could just chop it up and use it anyway, just thought it might make someone else's conversion a bit easier.
  16. hey. im in chch. not dead though. real keen for an os meet at some stage too, in a few weeks/months when the docs give me the all clear to drink again isnt it strange how the majority of o/sers down here that post regularly own old fords?
  17. nah, cant be fucked with it anymore, she'll be goin thru cert patches, paint it later yellow or something stupid.
  18. I'm fairly sure it only got its flash red paint job in 97, was white before then, i'll have a rummage through the old paper work though, could be wrong, would be funny as if we had some OS history goin on.
  19. Due to taking guidance from the wrong "expert" and not doing enough research regarding the power steering conversion i had planned for I've basically had to start the engine conversion again, and will have to make a sump from scratch. which will be a cunt. (cheers to Eke_zetec and gaz for putting me straight, I'd be understeering into a powerpole otherwise) anyway, i got a fresh crossmember, modified it to suit the standard lexus/ cortina mounts this time, modified my chassis kit to suit, then welded that all together, just got the engine mount tacked atm, gotta make sure it'll work with the teeny amount of clearance ive given for my as yet unmade sump. had to chop up my gearbox x member too cos the oil filter was hitting the steering rack, ah well its all further back now anyway = good. was looking at fitting a booster under the dash, really cant be fucked so when i tried a p10 master in the factory location and it fit, well with a spacer/ remote reservoirs so fuckit no booster, she'll be right, can always rangi something up once the cars goin. so yeah fuck all progress over the last few months. gay. but i have chopped 160mm out of my diff and made new mounts and tramp rods for that, mate resplined the axles for me = G C. guess thats better than a kick in the pants. no photos, hmm, might get some later. check out the rust i got rid of.. . farr/ meh
  20. if everything dies, including all the lights etc, id check your battery and alternator connections, and give them a good clean.
  21. man thats lookin tough, looks like the engine sits so well in there. who are you getting to do your laser cutting? i've gotta get some flanges done to make a sump. cant wait to see you terrorising the streets again haha.
  22. crazy_rich

    dipsticks..

just make a stick thats too long, fill it up with the right amount of liquid, shove it in there, pull it out, mark where the oil line is up to, shorten it up, shove it in, and go do a skid on harper ave.
  23. bonzai, ya gotta cut up a 4age one, cos they are all hangin out low at the front. = gay.
  24. the easiest derivative of a ford twin cam engine to come by would be the piece of crap twin cam engine in the later model sierras, you'd be better off with a pinto or a 4age, though i reckon a ca18de would be the go, wont have to pay massive money for a 4a to T50 bell, and all the water lines etc wont need adapted from an east west arrangement. ca18's and 4age's are very similar in size and weight, its just the sump config I have no idea about, and could be a cunt with the stupid frontal steering setup ford love so dearly.
  25. I went and talked to the cert guy yesterday, and hes all good with me making up some linkages to run the booster and cylinder under the dash, like this but he did say that hiace vans are like this from factory though you probably dont wanna go to such hassle with your car, there really isnt much occupying the space above the accel pedal once the ducting for the vent is removed, so i think theres room, in a capri anyway.
