  1. Hey, I've just been through the process of rebuilding the engine in my cortina (viewtopic.php?f=17&t=11751) The engines back in and running sweetly, just the transmission is pissing oil out everywhere, I'd like to say it wasnt doing it beforehand, but it wasnt full of oil back then, its only started being noticable after being filled up with fresh fluid. Anyway to the point, Im an auto noob, manuals are where its at, and i was wondering if anyone had any experience with the trusty borg warner 35 trans as to the possibility of fixing this in place? Looks to me like its coming out the shifter lever shaft seal and the rear slip yoke seal, doesnt look like its coming out the front seal (thank christ, fingers crossed etc). Has anyone had this before? tricks n tips would be freakin sweet, really dont want to have to remove the box. cheers.
  2. woah, dragged this forward a few pages... anyway, apparently im getting my licence back next month so i thought id get the cortina up and running for the last month of summer. It didnt have too much to do to it when i parked it up, mainly; recore radiator, find the leak in the brakes, rings and bearings in the engine and fix the slogged out linkage on the trans so i knew what gear i was in. but as we all know this isnt a perfect world and im expecting at least double that to need done. Pulled the engine sent it to my former place of work where they're fixing it m8's rates (champs) Its getting new rings, bearings, gaskets etc (naturally) as well as .040 bore with some second hand pistons jammed in there, new cam, rockers etc, standard of course, (no point embarrassing myself by trying to make it fast) getting the rods resized cos they aren't as round as the crank and that'll do, rekit the carb and hopefully it'll be all it needs. wont post any pics as you all know what a bloody pinto looks like naked. gona have a look at doing something with the seats, ive had some gay seatcovers on them but i wanna rock vynal, does anyone out there have an unfucked cortina drivers seat that looks like mine? dont mind getting 2 later model ones with headrests though, (to save my neck from the unspeakable torque) so long as they look the part (vomit stain brown) any help would be top notch. cheers for reading. pic of the carnage that is the captains chair:
  3. been working on a sump from scratch, been an interesting and time consuming experience, lets just hope it works, good thing about lexus v8's is cheap replacement longblocks. also started making a loom for the engine, and under the dash, never done any wiring before, other than the odd stereo etc so its also been a big learning curve. im hoping to get the sump finished off and tig welded next week, then i can bolt it in place, fill her with oil and see if it cranks. it'll be monumental.
  4. hey. I had a similar problem with my capri, and created this thread viewtopic.php?f=2&t=6976&p=122064&hilit=remote+brake+booster#p122064 in the end i concluded bias pedal box or no booster would be sweet as in a race car as modulation isnt so important, but for a street car, and not wanting to have to get used to the pedal feel every time i got into it, I wanted a booster. so I mounted one under the dash, using a liteace pedalbox and booster. the main problem with your idea is using a single circuit to provide pressure to a dual circuit, any modifications to a braking system have to involve conversion to a dual circuit system. I have seen in some cars, (mates early BMW 2002) the master and booster is mounted on the other side of the engine bay operated by a linkage, not too sure if it'd be legal to retrofit into another car, im sure ur certifier or one of the os guru's will see ya straight.
  5. yeah, sweet dude. I'll pm ya my cell.
  6. cheers Dan, and I'm using a linkplus G1 ecu, trying to get my head around the wiring over the last few days, best way to learn eh?
  7. hell yeah that looks way better, good stuff dude, Im keen on those headlights so long as they're adjusted from the front and are 5 3/4" diameter, and if we can figure a way to get them to chch.
  8. Ive been up to a bit, got the pedalbox all in and working, had to change it a bit to give the accelerator pedal some room, strengthened it up alot too. Hope the cert man likes it, though a hiace booster was his idea. Mounted the fishnets so ive got somewhere to sit and think about where the fuck all the spaghetti goes. fuck i hate wiring, doesnt help that i pulled it all apart when i was a noob teenager, oh well. stoked the dash doesnt need modifiying to clear any of the brake stuff, gonna look stock as. put some cobra lowering springs in the front, no room for coilovers. they sacked it out immensely, shot cobra.
  9. she'll be right, if it didnt heat seize it'll be good as new. sounds like you made the best of the situation. but yeah, if it aint broke, dont fix it
  10. if you do go right through with the drill, hold/clamp a bit of clean flat copper over the hole and weld it all up, also i find a heavy duty paint scraper better than a cold chisel for breaking free the panels, doesnt munt them up as much.
  11. hey cool car dude, has some mean potential, are the headlights in it now mk1 capri? if they are i'd be very keen on buying them off you if you wanted to sell them.
  12. yo, my technique is, sand off the paint so you can see exactly where the spot weld is, centre punch it, then pilot it with a 3mm drill (doesnt matter too much if you go right through, though its best not to). I sharpened a normal 8mm drill like the picture above, then drill evenly as common sense would dictate until you get the puff of rusty dust which indicates you're through. you can also get a drill called a zipcut, never used one, but they look pretty nifty.
  13. ^ right you are, it does have an L cast into it. as thats the case I guess its useless to anyone, off to the scrappies with it. Thanks for your help.
  14. man, with those coupes and Johns ceddy, seems as though christchurch is home to some very rare dattos. sweet.
  15. man thats an awesome car. good shit. cant help but think ive seen another one prowling round chch, white, driven by an old guy and often parked on bealy ave near the fitzgerald corner. could be slightly different though. stoked u saved it from being turned into a race hack.
  16. having a go at collecting the complete escort range mate? good shit. looks like a sweet project, guess we'll see it goin in a few months? i've always liked escort wagons.

capri's engine bay's are not as big as everyone thinks, especially mk1's with the boat hull valance cutting into valuable radiator space (not too sure about mk2's) you'd be cutting back the firewall or moving the front crossmember forward to fit any straight 6 in, and you'll have to watch plenum chambers hitting the brake booster with most modern turbo engines, because they are mounted far more inboard than most jappas. any engine you put in would need to have a rear sump as well, due to the steering rack being in front of the crossmember. all of those problems are easily rectified, but not if you're after a simple cheap conversion. vg30det gets my vote.

blasphemy! dont let Gaz hear of this plan .
  20. yeah im fairly sure its a standard toyota one, thought it might be of a g or s, m series, but as i know fuck all about these thought id get some advice, seems to be not as common as i thought?
  21. Sup guys, anyone able to tell me what this bolts up behind? came with my W57 G/box
  22. ^^ lies.. all of it. fuck i've got one disjointed project thread haha. anyway, i decided to have a crack at a brake booster after all and by merging a liteace and capri pedalbox i reckon it'll work, this is as far as i got before the wire feed on my mig fucked out (thought buying a decent one would avoid that kind of thing.. looks like i was wrong ) its tighter than a nuns cunt up there, but she'll be right, just gotta pinch a oxy plant from somewhere so i can bend the pedals to the right place, no point having the stop pedal where the go pedal's meant to be, then i can try get a go pedal to work, looking at my corty i reckon one of those will do the job. I'll know in time. other than that i painted the inside, and the boot and pulled a nismo and baremetalled the underside. fuck knows why. never gonna do that again. so yeh, gona get my welder fixed, por15 the underside, paint the engine bay and start throwing the bitch together, getting fuckin sick of building this car.
  23. shit mate i bet thats super sweet on gas. flintstones styles. someone had to say it.
  24. yeah, they're my local usually pass my cars all good, even my cortina when it had dodge seatbelts and no speedo, cheers for the heads up, was planning on taking my bluebird there tomorrow, might try somewhere else..
