  1. So yeah, last night I ran a tape measure over my hilux diff, noticed the leaf mounts were the same dist. apart as the capri (give or take) so yeh, bolted my capri leafs on, bolted the diff in. She lined up sweet as. bolted my wheels on, they stick outside the guards barely 10mm each side. Now i've gotta decide, should i pump my guards slightly, or should i narrow the diff (by sweet fuck all) I seriously think i could get away with facing 5mm off the inside of the wheel, facing 5mm off the inside parting faces of the bearing cup (end of housing) and then shortening the spline at the end of the axle (5mm) The diff measured about 1380mm so it must be out of a very old 2wd ute.
  2. hmm well that sucks to hear. cheers for the info anyway, all i really need is some quad lights off something, im sure they'll have something...
  3. Hey, Im at about the point in my build where i just need to go to a wrecker to grab some bits. however, up until now i have avoided them like the plague the only ones I have had experience with are kiwi, and canterbury car parts. problem being, canty car parts dont have anything remotely oldschool, and kiwi... well.... So does anyone have any recomendations? I dont like dealing with pricks. Cheers.
  4. hey, I've heard of some weird things happening when 1uz's are transplanted using components that were not originally with that engine, i.e. (especially) transmission, fuel pump, O2 sensors etc personally I couldnt be bothered pissin round with it, have you signed up with the lextreme forums, they are all pretty helpful and definately knowledgable fellas. http://www.lextreme.com im sure someone there will help ya.
  5. Hey Josh, thats an awesome idea, research brake boosters and pass all your gathered information on to me since w're both doin it we mightas well work together, production line out all the bits etc. ya know... mad skidz...
  6. thats awesome. i want one. i hope you've binned the air filter, it'll go faster without.
  7. I'd say somethings fucked mate, jack the back end right up and have a decent look around, poke n prod etc, your bound to notice something on one side thats different to the other, broken spring mount or something. has the car been in any wicked rear end realigning crashes in the past?
  8. bluebird, primera, galant, falcon, they all have the handbrake in the caliper, not internal drum, much easier to adapt, the falcon ones are the only ones that you'd have trouble fitting into a 13. (pretty sure rx7 are caliper handy too, cant confirm)
  9. looks pretty major... but its all fixable. most of the affectd areas seem to be flat panels, (good ol 80's designs) so id say a weekend with a mig and some panel steel will see it right. is it possible to buy replacement sills for that car? oh, and id steer clear of nu tech for use as a rust repair. It'll be back in 3 months, thats if the twisting of the body doesnt crack it and spit it out of the sills (bog in sills = no no, highly structural.) best of luck to ya mate
  10. yeh man, the atlas out of a mk 3 2.8i special, brooklands or 280 capri is what u want. 3.23 ratio (i think) with LSD. good luck finding one.
  11. ah i thought it was this diff you were referring to http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing ... d=70247543 but that is not an 8 inch.
  12. hilux. do it. i'll do it too. but if u do get that 8 inch off tard me, talk to me about axles, cos that ones a 5 stud and mines a 4. I want 5. you want 4. since my 8 inch has a mini spool (cheers Dave) it'll disappear under my next project.
  13. man, screw paying that much to do it. DIY ftw.
  14. 13b turbo... you know you want to
  15. yep.... Id say the bean counters at ford thought, "hey if we have a car thats got enough grunt to need an lsd, we might as well just chuck a 9 inch under it." still... i dont know for certain. waste of a post really.
  16. Id say they are bloody hard to source, I've been keeping an eye out for one myself. I wouldnt be surprised if they only ever came out in some rare as souped up pinto sold only in america that was recalled after 6 months. personally i reckon itd be easier just to get an lsd head for ur escort diff, with a strengthened housing and axles, will probably work out cheaper. Or a shortened up japper one.
  17. yeh bang some solex in it, and get a new ignition barrel out of another car, I wouldnt be surprised if u can still get them brand new, or you could modify another type to suit, thats if u really want to confuse some criminals who think they know celeste's. I've got the same problem. god only knows where my capri's keys are... meh.
  18. falcon utes did not have a true 8 inch diff, that picture you posted is a true 8 inch, out of an older v8 coon or a mustang. I have one of those 8 inch mustang diff's for my crapper, identified by the fact they are front loading like a 9 inch, not rear loading like a borg warner. http://www.trademe.co.nz/Trade-Me-Motor ... 271880.htm ^lsd for ya. All mk 2/3 capris from this part of the world used an atlas type diff (as far as im aware) but the mk 1 atlas's are narrower. I'm considering ditching the idea of using my 8" for 2 reasons, its not lsd, its going to be a cunt to restud, and i might have to narrow it a further inch or so to get my wheels up under the guards, and if im going through all that hassle i might as well just get a hilux or a 9 inch. i've heard the 8 inch's can handle around 350 hp, but with an lsd unit ^ and a ca18det (which wont have the torque of the v8's they would have got that figure from) it'll be mint for what u want.
  19. how would they know? certifier; "ah... so you're telling me that hilux came factory with 4x108stud?" If the axles are heat treated properly after welding and the grain structure normalised again I would think they are fine for cert. Very good point though.
  20. imo i'd fill them regardless of whether or not its possible to drill the holes without having it, it'll just look like an afterthought otherwise, and be stronger, so long as some kind of attempt to normalise/ stress relieve the hub takes place.
  21. eh, just push out the old studs, weld up the holes, machine back the welds, chuck it in a mill clock up central to the spigot then drill 4 brand spankin new ones, guess thats common sense though, just depends if theres room on the back of the hub flange for the studs being closer to the axle without fouling on the radius. My mate had his hilux diff converted to honda stud pattern, (whatever that is) i doubt ford is smaller.
  22. very very cool car bro, good find.

    Help

sounds to me like a headgasket, white smoke out the exhaust, radiator fluid coming out the side, oil leaking... no compression. all tell tale signs. Had the car been used much/ run regulary before you got it? because if not the headgasket would have been in a fairly eroded state and wouldnt have taken much to pop.
  24. just do what my boss did to his race car, chuck the struts in a press and bend em, just not too much or else the inserts wont fit in.
  25. do that. or just fold the hose over its self and ziptie it off. or do what i did when i pulled the crapper apart, park the ride on next to it, hose in the tank and let gravity do its thing
