  1. You and @Chunky_tshould certainly ride from the top of the south. Wellington to Palmy isn't a long trip.

We'll probably leave a day or two before the ride kicks off. We can either have a BIG day 1: Palmy-Napier-Waikaremoana-Whakatane or stay in Waikaremoana and cruise into Whakatane the next day.

For the return trip we might split early, boost the coast road and head south, but we haven't decided yet.

Do "tyres for power" and "tyres for mx5s" have a crossover?  :P

    Haha, it's a fair comment.

The most powerful car I've recommended them for is a 230kw DC5 (supercharged K24) and he loves the on the street and at the track. The Gemini will be lighter, more powerful and the tyres will be narrower, but these should still go well in most conditions.

  3. If you decide the AR1s are too motorsporty, I've got a recommendation for you.

Hankook Ventus RS4. They're available in 225/45-15 and are a great all rounder. This is the new class tyre for MX5 racing (although we run 195s). So far the lap times are about the same as the R888Rs and they're loads better in the dry.

I've done 6 meetings on my first set and they're barely showing signs of wear. I'll probably get 12 race meetings out of a set at the current wear rate.

We pay under $200 per tyre for ours and I'm sure you'd be able to snag a set of 225s for ~$250 per tyre if you use the right dealer...

Please go and check your seat mounting, your seat is moving around way to much for my liking

New seat mounts are on my to do list already. It's solidly mounted to 50x3mm strap that's welded to the floor, but either the floor, mounts or the seat itself must be getting a bit of flex. It's pretty tiring to drive, so a more solid mount will likely take some of that load off too.

I've definitely got a few jobs to do before the next outing though.......

We did even less fancy ducting to that on the carpi and it made a chalk and cheese difference to water temperatures. That looks proper racecar mint

Nice, I'm keen to see how this goes. I got turbo lazy and just duct taped it together for now (I'm pretty time poor at the mo). Might fold and rivet some corner pieces this week to make sure it holds together, although it feels super strong.

    Redmist

That's the guy. He did a fair amount of R&D on the smallport in his buggy. I don't recall seeing any dyno numbers, but apparently it went hard for what it was.

There's plenty of examples of race and rally cars that have had their ports reshaped using Devcon and other 2 part epoxy type stuff. A lot of the time people do this for flow direction (eg downporting to point directly at the valve)) as much as port size/shape. There's got to be a few rally Barries around NZ who have gooed up their bigports over the years...
