  1. What rate are you offering for a trained mechanic that is on to it? I don't want the job but most are either leaving the field or city to better paying jobs so unless you're paying 60k or more good luck with your search.
  2. My customer has recently purchased this vw & maybe interested in getting some $$ back to justify his purchase
  3. I think the number of coupes was approx 130 in nz and about 300+ were sent to aust they were ment for SE asia market. As for the sedan I have heard of a few au stanzas that were sent here but dont know of any here apart from the rally car that enters the silver furn rally ect. My Pa10 pre dates the aussie model and had jdm std equipment no borgwarner or single carb in sight. But its not known where it's from but recently I have found a badge for a '77 Auster matches the embossing on the back of the front seats. Anyway cool car and good work. The dyno is most likely the clutch
  4. Workstore in east tamaki is my best recommendation. They also have small workshops with power for approx $750/m
  5. Just stamp your foot make the date 28th or 29th if people rather go to another event that is how it goes there is always something on to conflict with it. I can come on the 29th but only maybe the 28th due to working.
  6. So tho I have decided this car is not worth my effort fixing it has been quite useful. Firstly used the front wheels for customers trailer that needed a new axle (could not find new 4x98 anymore) 2nd I used the rubber spring helpers from the LF spring to fix a accord that was slightly to low in the front (BMC used these to level the car due to uneven spring from factory) thirdly a nice stag came in for its wof and I sold him all the switches and controls from the column & center consul as his was in well used condition. So now that It has come to some use its off to the dump in a week unless someone wants to buy it $300 or buy some parts off it cheep
  7. So the other week thought it was a good idea to bid on this thinking I could put new points in and go... http://www.trademe.co.nz/Browse/Listing.aspx?id=827790532 since no one else bid obviously no one else thought it was a good idea. Turns out there was quite abit not declared in the auction (not sold as is where is) eg major rust in both A pillars and also small amount at bottom of all doors. anyway guy claims he had spent $5000 on it but I struggled to find where. tho engine and trans has had work by some unexperienced mechanics (mixing silicone sealant & cork gaskets is a sure sign of this) and it does run quite well once i changed the points, Ballast resistor, and put some oil in the carbs I dont need this car and am willing to sell it for what i paid for it $600 now that it starts and drives but if your not quick the price will go up as i will fix it.
  8. Fitting a rear anti sway bar to the rear of the car will only worsen your problem and cause the car to tripod. there is no doubt you have a spring or shock issue. Coil over shocks are not designed to be used for a long time and buying them 2nd hand is not advised and cusco seem to be the worse when it comes to that fact. Normally there is a reason they were removed from the last car. When I first set my datsun up with the same setup I made the same mistake with some free cusco coilovers it was a scary 1st drive much tho my problem was that the shocks didint work and was similar to driving a bump stopped car constant bouncing. Also WOW $400 to attach some sticks to the front tyres then jack the car up and down to check for movement in the toe of the tyres (bump steer check)
  9. I reccomend the rear subframe etc form a Nissan Serena van they are similar to the cefiro type but have a Nylon transverse leaf spring intergated in to frame so all you need to do is mount an fit shocks and most of them have a viscus LSD with 4.3 or 4.6 ratios. They mostly have drum brakes to keep traditional look and come in 4, 5, or 6 studs depending on model grade.
  10. Yes hes a good guy, hes always up for a good yarn about old cars and good at his work. He is responsible for finding the windscreen which I could not find for 5 years until I met him.
  11. Checking out the engine on the spare it looks like it must of been very low kms when the head gasket blew back in '93 and it got left in a barn because the cylinder bores tho they have surface rust they have no lip on the bores and the measure the factory 73mm so I could hone them out and fit a set of nos pistons I have lying arround unless someone want a set of std size flat top pistons for there A12 or A10 (they used the same pistons only the a A series had dish top instead of flat) Yes that is rat poo's Anyway I was happy as a lady in a chocolate store with a half price sale today, Jeremy Tagg from Bespoke auto glass came round with some new seals to fit my new windscreen so my car now looks like a car again. Only sad thing about it was it was not easy to get original seal which would suit the chrome so I have to settle with no chrome trim
  12. Keep windows but use perforated vinyl to make it look all metal but still allows you to see what you are running over, also alot cheeper than making metal patches then hours of work straightening the panel because any low or high will show up badly on such a big flat panel
  13. I think I have seen a carb kit on e-bay or alibaba if you cant find just buy a complete chinese carb for a J15 there is plenty on ether those two sites. will fit in place tho my need to mod acc cable. Found it thanks I thought it was a cedric badge but I was looking for grill badges not a rear badge which it is
  14. Well since brakes were still siezed I had to tie it to the greenhouse and drive off with the trailer to get it off but that worked a treat. I have since removed an old rats nest from the back seat with the usual amount of shi Question for the people name this badge (centre onewith datsun script) I have seen it before but dont know whats it from. Also I found that it has a Air ranger transistor radio with original speaker. I can only find little info on these so as far as I know they came on early nz built holdens but can anyone share more light to the matter? aslo are they worth anything to a collector? Discuss here //oldschool.co.nz/index.php?/topic/29454-mrt1trds-1963-datsun-bluebird-p312/?hl=mrt1trd
  15. So after a mad rush to finnish building my car trailer we headed away this weekend to purchase my new datsun bluebird. after many kms and a few stops we finally got to Wairoa at 4pm sat. As per usual it was alot worse off than was suggested on trademe but there was also a few gems left on it that can help the other return to the road. anyway the farmer was a good sort helped to drag it on to the trailer (15years of storage left it with flat tyres and a siezed brake drum on the rear). He aslo offered us his pig who was quite fond of my partner. But since we live in Birkenhead we might get removed from the neighbourhood having a pet pig. We carryed on to Napier for some overpriced gas and a great night sleep at 'The Country Hotel' (5* recomended) After a nice brekky my partner said that I was allowed to buy if we can take more breaks like this (sweeeet) Full credit to the Maxi with 486000kms on the clock she still towed like a boss and only used 3/4 of a full 65L tank from Napier to Auckland with a car in tow.
  16. Revival My fire pit/kabab cooker has been sweet has served well. But now I need a trailer so this weekend I went to work I started with a pile of steel and spent a few hours on sat and sun to get to this Its super low but only for now as needed to get out of workshop so tacked on trolley wheels
  17. I have done some work on this but have put it out of the way of the workshop but that makes it harder to work on now. But in other news I now have two.
  18. So I Finally found a windscreen after many years of dead ends I was put onto a GC at Bespoke auto Glass. So if anyone is stuck finding glass for a Rare classic car go see him, he is also the guy to speek to if you want your glass refitted but he only does old cars. Free Plug
  19. So I brought this today http://i15.photobucket.com/albums/a360/P_Star/IMG_20130917_135849.jpg Traded some lada parts and cash for it then decided it was too dangerous to tow had to hire a trailer to tow it from henderson. And then cut some of it up so it could fit the trailer. So this is what it looked like when I got it home. so to justify my purchase i decided to make something out of what I was not going to use like the heavy guard so a bit of cutting and welding here and there and I created a small BBQ/fire pit thing
  20. Nice work on the car, You were asking about the window bushes off trade me, give me a PM and i will do you a deal
  21. It was quiet at the workshop today and I had Tax to do so I procrastinated with some work on the Bluebird, so first was to put some more underseal on the floors as it cracked up in a couple of areas then it was on to fitting a new fuel line, hose, and filter then got onto refitting accelerator and cable and the last couple of wires. then after dinner and a few beers later it was ready so couple of liters in the tank, prime the fuel pump and a slight turn of the hand it was running as smothe as a good funk track after 5 years sitting. This was a milestone to motorvate me to get it on the road tho there is alot to do but I think its about time
  22. Come see me, I like making custom exhaust's And I should be able to do it for a decent price Taffard Motors 83 Hinemoa St Birkenhead PH 2821290
  23. It has been soo long since i have done anything significant with this but i have refound my passion and done a bit of work so here is a new pic for once [/url] Hopefully i will do some more
  24. No headrest looks cool but your chances of surviving a 40km+ crash to the rear is 0% so your better off running with open scissors around swimming pool
  25. "Accelerator pedal is really "springy" (best way to describe it)" Factory option
