  1. fuk bro, that sux,i was just reading your thread and was like damn this is mint, then BAM!!! some stupid city slicker in a shopping edition 4x4 takes it out..WTF...i wouldve slapped the bitch and pissed in her car... that sux hard..hope you can get her fixed..
  2. basically if look under a rotor with the sump off it looks like a barrel, where the front cover mounts to the front end plate has a cavity, thats where the oil pump is,its driven off a chain drive from the eccentric shaft(crank for pistons),theres also a worm drive gear on the end that the dizzy drives off.thats it...the oil pickup mounts to the base of the front end plate.. the only oil that goes into the sump comes from the oil cooler hoes off the passenger side,it dumps into the side of the front cover,....so only the oil pump and dizzy drive gets lubed in there pretty much.. if you look through the pics on my projects page you may see a pic off the bottom of the engine without the sum on it... and yeah i was thinking of using steel tube for the dipstick not rubber.. steels cheaper and easier to work with..thats if i had a welder grrr
  3. this site is full of GC's with ideas....
  4. az,you da man...might just get a bit of tubing ie 10mm or something, and angle i into the sump and mount it off the side of the block???? transformer parts?eh why not....it more than meets the eye
  5. i guess its to stop any leaks sucking in air rather than oil... i just need a mig and im away...could have it all set for cert pretty quick.. if i can get a rebuild kit for the 10a id PP when i weld up the tunnel
  6. well i did most of my sump today..i need input of what you guys think...will it work ok. i may leave the back section flat cos theres no bearings there in a rotor... i kinda discovered that the dipstick is un needed due to being nowhere near the bowl now,so i think i might make up a sight glass for checking oil level in the sump..will it work? the same kind they use on oil catch cans etc...just dont know where to get one from.. but shes getting there...just need a mig dammit
  7. even more progress today!!! wtf i dont know whats got into me... anyway i started on making a sump..from scratch.. actually easier than i thought.. as you can see from the pics,i traced a pattern from the sump gasket, cut that out leaving about 5-8mm extra outside the gasket line, then i drilled 4 holes, then bolted the new plate to the old sump, drilled the rest of the holes then the extra 5-8mm ill bashed over the edge of the sump to form a strengthening trim thingy,i thought itd work, dont know, looks the biz anyway. so then i bolted the new plate to the bottom of the engine, measured where i can put a bowl. its gonna end up only holding 3.7L of oil, which isnt far off the stock capacity anyway.. so then i cut out some steel for a bowl, then re-thought my design, recut some more, and ended up with a bowl that i cut a strip out and wrapped it around for the shape, then ill tack it in place once i get a welder, then make a cap to sit over whta you can see,ive got a nut that ill weld into the bottom for a drain.. then with the pickup,i think ill end up cutting alot of the pipe off and using some hi temp oil hose to relocate the position of the pick up...im sure itll be fine.. very tempting to do a dry sump so heres some pics of todays effort..im really held up now by not having a mig...
  8. do the capri struts bolt straight onto mk2s and mk1s? all model capris?
  9. yeah,then another $30 down from there
  10. mmm, nice but freight from aussie is a killer

its ok untill it gets chipped, then it just flakes off..
  13. looks wicked...gold star would look good on the dr
  14. on closer inspection, and a few mins with the tape measure.. i pulled out the old tank, and decided ill just use the stock tank. but i do need to get the sender sorted, hate not knowing how much gas is in it.. so its to the sale yards for the droptank.. and on closer inspection of the tank, its baffled too..bonus. pitty im not using it though.. keeping the tank will allow me to keep the boot stock and maybe ill put a sub or 6x9s in it later on.
  15. well havent dont diddly squat on the bitch for a while now.. waiting for someone to buy me a mig but my droptank turned up today,so will enjoy cutting the hole for it,the boot floor that gets removed may become the new gearbox tunnel cos im a tight c**t... every time i look at the ssr heels i keep seeing them on the car and look super ballbag.. so wanna get them slotted to fit,the paint and polish them slap tyres on for super garage steez. i really need to see some pics of super sickness escorts so i can get some mojo goin on for the bitch. so lacking motivation right now.
  16. my droptank turned up today...sick. looks like i cant use the outlet on the sender as a return cos its half way down the tank..its the fuel pickup. anyway, what ill do is plumb the return into the filler neck. when i mount the tank ill make a funnel type bowl for the filler tube to mount to, that will be mounted to the rear panel by the tail lights,in that will be a little overflow pipe exiting from the boot away from the exhaust overall purchase is mint...$140 delivered for a 75L droptank
  17. youll neen to cut the battery tray off. if you dont have a styley pedal box youll have to get creative with the brake booster area. my radaiator is also 650 wide.
  18. did royce clive shorten your shocks?what did it cost ya?
  19. i know the factory brakes are shit house.i drove it from dunners to here,6 hour drive..over hills and down steep grades, through the nicest twisting sections in nz.. it handled like a rolly polly slug...brakes were well less than desirable...
  20. just got a phone call from a guy whos got 5 stud fronts on his escort.he actually just got his escort hubs drilled for 5 stud.maybe easier and cheaper to do that..
  21. right...the escorts sitting here doing nothing,im doing nothing on it,contemplating what to do on it next and when.. kinda thinking of binning the current pedal box and brake setup. will either go with a palmside style pedal box.or a flashy wilwood triple master box. but doing that to stock brakes is just a waste of time,so i wanna know the easiest way to get vented discs on the front.. or are there any 5 stud hubs from anything that will bolt on?was told a rumor that zephyr hubs bolt on?just a rumor but would be nice to get 5stud up front. was looking at doing the rn20 hilux diff in the back seeing its really simple, and disc conversions on diffs arent too hard.. so main question is-are there 5 stud hubs from others cars that will bolt on?? or what are your recommendations

    panel steel?

id just go to a panelbeaters and ask for whatever size sheet ya need.
  23. sweet..cheers gaz. the guy said its got a cortina sender unit on it,so will it have a return on there?would be sick if it does
  24. i cant find anything on the lvvta site about them.. i could always just make a skid pan type protection thing for it.. aussie escorts have a droptank type fuel tank below the boot.. ill just put it in..
