My apologies, thought this was the 2027 coropeak hillclimb thread

Anyone else keen to drive down? Not sure about accomodation just yet, likely we'll camp in the truck.

Random slightly cool stuff you built but not worth its own thread, thread

Thats sweet! GF plays the button accordian, its quite a comical sound, jovial Swiss alpine melodies to be traditional followed by Mario cos we're not that old Kinda like this -
That interrior colour is the opening scenes of OG Top Gun, how does that level nostalgia not sell itself?

Oh my, long time, no update! Been plenty going on, Datsun nats last year was a washout but we made it up and back and now we prep all over again for south island nats here in Chch. Poor car has sat neglected, occasionally pushed out to make space, fingers well and truely crossed as I reconnected the battery and thankfully it fired right up, went for a shakedown after spanner check to fill up the tank and then it all turned to shit. Rough running under load and a terrible idle, managed to limp through a few sets of lights back to the shed. From here I went through everything fuel pump, filters all checked out, spark plugs not so much, pulled them all for a good clean, reset the points, tweaked the timing and everything was back to normal, who would have thought, after a year in hibernation all it needed was a good old fashioned Italian tune up, if only that was first instead of a half day pulling everything apart! With gained confidence I went about shoveling second tier issues thorugh the 3d printer, first was blanking caps No more coins falling silly places, much likeing that I can also print the size for later reference. I lost the fusebox cover some years ago, new ones are painfully expensive if at all available, few measurements and As checking spark plugs is about the only thing I do to this motor, may as well make that part of the strut cap Have a few other bits on the run, centre cap test came out pretty good, real deals should print overnight Not all the work is plastic, a tame machinist is working on some other bits, hopefully they will be ready prior to nats

A few folds and welds in the right places and it gets very capable fast. -

Looking at the layout again, my head is now thinking sheetmetal, would just need to machine the mating face on the rear housing down 1.2mm then sandwich it all together? Not much more than an afternoon to put it all together -

Finding a flat surface on castings is always a pain! Would it be possible to extend your new mounts up to the top cover of the shifter housings? Then you would be able to work to a nice flat datum to get everything lined up, may need a new/modified top cover to joint the two if thats even possible? What scanner are you using? -
Not one I could add value to sorry, I set up to book values and let the lack of horsepower smooth over my questionable workmanship

+1 that diffs/gearboxes aren't scary, so awesome that most rebuild documents can be found online now. I have now rebuilt most of my own gearboxes and diffs with success, something i've noticed is that taper bearings can look OK but be worn enough to give out of spec float and noise, replacing with new has fixed many issues I couldn't fully diagnose at the time. The calculations given for shims often confuse the shit out of me so I usually step back and sketch the load paths on a whiteboard to understand the system, then its straight forward to see if I need a thicker or thinner shim and go from there. Diffs I find even more confusing than gearboxes due to the 90deg input, I find the whiteboard gets many diagrams to remind me which way the load is going and target wipe surfaces helps keep the brain on track.

109 is still a steal, on special is awesome! I used mine for a quick job the other week, kept meaning to do some pics and feedback that the ali option is all good too!

A possible fix inline with an engineering safety discussion had with @h4nd, may/maynot be the viable option You'll probably need to squish it a bit with a hammer to fit

Supercheap have fork oil https://www.supercheapauto.co.nz/oils-fluids-filters/motorcycle/fork-oil I used this to rebuild the factory shocks in a not at all performance vehicle that would have been happy with anything other than air. went down a rabbit hole a few years back for gas strut regassing, all the tools and fittings are on Ali, just need a nitrogen tank, if you're that way inclined

Anyone else finding Fusion is becoming increasingly unuseable with constant updates, crashes and glitches? I only use it every few weeks that updates are 50% of my use, that with other glitches has gotten so bad for me i'm at the point of walking out.

Those things always clog, were you not re-employed as an auto drain maintainer?
