Whats a good gearbox oil to use in a Mk4 zephyr zodiac 4 speed box? the book says EP SAE 80, would that be a GL4 or a GL5 rating? People say a GL5 will eat away or wear out syncros and or make for shit gear changes, dose this box have bronze syncros? And also a mid 1970s JAG XJ6 diff oil should that be a GL5? rated oil? Cant seem to find any info on the net,

It could be arranged.

Here is my home made blacksmiths spring hammer I built a cople yers ago, I use it for my art work, forging, tapering and dwaring out steel bars etc, Its all made from scrap steel.
-
looks like it has a rear tire on the front, from personal experience this makes things intresting.

A guy I know had a Buick with a flathead straight 6 he sed he got a set of pistons that didn't fit so he filed them to the point they would slide down the bore, but the thing would seze up at every hill to a screaching halt, he gave it the jiff treatment witch fixed it
-
Fuchs Titan dose a straight 50 weight oil or that penrite 25w70 Or you could make some kind of bong system and bubble the exhaust through water in the boot.
-
Its a sedan, I used those adjusters on the backs to wind the pistons in but didn't relise they had to be wound back out with the new pads lol
-
I will give that a go then as the handbrake is only just holding when its fully up, cheers for the info, I was about to start looking under the car for the adjuster.
-
I think it need a bit of that too, they may not have any adjusters?
-
Thanks for that, I thought they would set themselves when i used the handbrake, I did what you sed and it worked.
-
Non oldschool question but I am relay stuck, I wound the pistons back put everything together and now the handbrake leaver pulls up and dose nothing.
-
wireing up the EFI sounds like a bit of work unless you can use some of the old wiring, I am going to wire up my charging system as it uses heavy wire then think about a kit.
-
Thats good to know, your making me what to get one now.

Found something, they were trying to use a Bosh regulator with a Lucas generator, the Bosh solidstate regulator is the one i fount on trademe http://mgaguru.com/mgtech/electric/et231.htm

Did you have to do much probing with a test light and shit like that?
-
Also can anyone understand the instructions for my distributor timing tool? I have spent hours trying to set the points and carn't get it even close, the instructions are vague is fuck http://www.flatheadsrus.com/download/file.php?id=1717 BTW its a 1939 ford v8 motor, if anyone in Auckland could show me how to use this tool I would highly appreciate it
-
I probley would get one of those kits if I didn't have all the wire and components, You installed one on your Buick ay?
-
Someone was saying they can work but only if the field coil isn't grounded to the body inside the genarator or something?
-
Yes those are the connectors I was after, do they sell them in nz? I couldn't find them for the last project and spent hours unpicking them off a Bedford.
-
I have an aliexpress account, they are very nice to deal with, I realy want the old style ones you have to crimp in 2 spots,
-
On to the last job on my ratrod witch is the worst job, I HATE electrical crap, those wiring kits are not relay suitable for this car and I can not afford, but I have heeps of new automotive electrical wire, I need some kind of fuse box, what is a good car to get one from? something small, I will only have headlights + taillights, high stop, incinerators, and any other stuff for a wof. Where can I get proper crimp connectors witch support the wire by the insulation as well as crimping round the strands, those supercheep and repco one suck. Going to use the 12v DC 2 brush generator as it supports the fan and has been reconditioned, can I use a Solid state regulator with this? I am sick of polarizing generators and having batters boiled dry because I don't know how to tune a mechanical regulator.

Cool thanks for that, Waitemata Hydraulics is quit close to me, they are funny old bastads
