Sheepers other MS75 crown coupe

there was a tiny bit of rust in the rear seal chanel so i cut it out and made a new bit. its multi skinned and all weird shapes and im not a million percent happy with how it came out but it does get a rubber seal glued to it so its not the end of the world.

someone has been here before and there are multiple repairs along the bottom of the rear glass channel, the most usual spot for rust in an MS75, but its been done well and shows no sign of causing any issues so ive left it be.

anywho, rust fixed and now its painted.

well, after a very long day in which the gun blocked multiple times and i poured 500 mils of paint all over the bench i finally got a sealer coat on the car.

the drivers side isn't done yet, ill turn the car around and do that tomorrow.

now the fun job of sanding can begin

i fucking wiped the car down with prepsol and said to myself "now you take a picture of how the filler/car looks before you put any more paint on it so the nice people can see what you've done"

and i didnt take a fucking photo.

sorry about that, now all i can show you is a picture very much like the one above, except the car now has less dents.

its not straight enough for colour yet but i kind of feel like i could wet sand it with the long boards and get it right from here? maybe not. probably need to 240 grit it now to get it super straight, then another light coat of primer and wet sand. ill probably do that.

i love me a good christmas car painting.

i was looking at some of my other build threads and christmas is definitely the time i paint cars.

dunno why?

anywho,

ive nearly finished the passengers side but i needed to get some paint on the drivers side so its got a couple of days to harden before i start sanding it.

so today i applied some primer.

also i figured out the blocking problem i've been having with my primer gun. turns out the pot vent was blocked. what a dick.

today i dropped the air duster on the rear window and it exploded. the duster only kind of glanced off it but the window just exploded.

 

it goes without saying that i don't have a spare.

today went better.

i got the little bit of surface rust of the inside of the scuttle panel and chucked some brunnox on it.

poured some brunnox inside the fuel filler flap and then chucked some primer on things.

yesterday i primed the car again so only the drivers side needs another coat, the rest of the car is ready for wet sanding.

yay, wet sanding.

ive spent a few days working on this thing,

but now its back into the crown.

so the whole car is ready for wet sanding and im pretty confident that the sape is close enough to get any last ripples out with the last round of sanding.'the only outstanding thing to adress is the bumpers and how they fit to the body.

the back bumper was the worst of the two and it sat way to low and way to far away from the car.

the low is easy to sort with slotting the holes but the back bumper mounts hard against the back of the chassis so moving it in is a bit tricky.

i thought about modifying the mounts but that was going to be a ball ache so i cut the rear off the chassis and moved it in 10mm. now i have room to add spacers to get it exactly right.

haven't had the best luck with my cars just recently.

the brand new link dash i got for my v8 fucked out. the rear gearbox seal in the blue car keeps leaking and it turns out to be the rear bushing that the drive shaft goes into. the box has only done about 3000Ks max so that's a bit shit. its also a motor out job to fix it. 

 

i have been working on the crown but didn't really take any pictures.

until today.

ive been working on the back bumper, trying to get it to line up with the body better, and its better, but its a long way from perfect. its just so bent and fucked that i really cant get it any better. whatever.

so now im working on the bumper itself. earlier i had to make this bumper out of a sedan one with the top bits from the coupe bumper welded on.

the coupe bumper is taller at the sides where it wraps around into the rear guard than the sedan bumper but also the curve of the chrome piece is different between the sedan and the coupe.

i didn't fix that when i first put the bumper on but today i did.

so i finally finished the back bumper and got it ready for a coat of primer.

 

on to the front bumper.

the front was too wide and has been fucked with plenty in the past. the chrome bit was a cunt to get on because the holes were so far out.

so after a bit of pissing about it became clear that i needed to cut 10mm out of the middle of the bumper and leave the chrome bit alone and it should all work much better.

so thats what i did.

i havent had a chance to bolt it all up and check everything but just holding it in place it looks pretty much bang on.

finished welding it then i smashed it with hammers for a while.

then i put some etch on the bare steel, then some bog.

then i sanded the bog and put some epoxy primer on it and the back one.

tomorrow ill give them a sand then put some more primer on them i would imagine.

oh also i put some brunnox on the back of the front bumper.

so today i sanded that first coat of primer with 220 and they both came up pretty good so i put a final coat of primer on them.

 

with that done all the priming for the whole car is done (in theory) so i started wet sanding.

the wet sanding is going pretty well so far. im sure i wont be saying that by the end but whatever, lets get it done so we can finally get some colour on this thing!

or more accurately, the things i forgot about and needed to sort out before i finish sand the car.

or more accurately, the things i took off the guards and put on the doors.

"oh no, it hasn't got guard mirrors it cant be Japanese you've ruined it"

the guard mirrors are a fucking massive pain in the arse which you'd know if you ever had to live with them. the whole head moves, not just the mirror so as soon as someone walks by the car in a carpark you can no longer see.

which necessitates yet another 5 minutes fucking around sitting in the car, looking at the mirrors, getting out of the car and walking around moving them the amount you think will get them in the right spot, then getting back in the car to find you still cant see shit, then getting out of the car and adjusting the mirrors the amount you think will get them in the right spot, then getting back in the car to find you still cant see shit.

TL:DR,

its my car ill do what i want so get fucked.

 

 these mirrors are XA falcon because i think they suit the car and because the housing doesn't move the mirror if you bump it and most importantly of all you can buy them and the replacement mirror if you need it.

it took a bit of fucking around to make them fit the door. way, way more than i took pictures of, but they sit exactly how i want now and all i have to do is drill the holes which ill do tomorrow.

so, now, finally, i can wet sand the car.

ive found a rear windscreen!

 

not so yay, its in Dunedin.

so im going to have to figure out some way of getting it up here, preferably without breaking it.
