Sheepers other MS75 crown coupe

been fucking around with the tune trying to get it to run right.

like a fucking douche bag i only fed power to the auto choke and not to the fuel cut solenoid (it doesn't actually cut fuel because it would run without power to it but whatever)  and because of that i couldn't get it to run right.

amazingly when i fed power to the things that should have power it ran perfectly.

ive got all the brakes bled up and they work fucking mint too.

ive hooned it around the block a few times and it drives really well, the shocks and springs are premo and the auto seems to work really well.

now its on to finishing the rust work and get it back on the road.

i modified a sedan rear bumper to fit this because the origionla bumper off it was rusty.

 

the sedan bumpers are lower on the edges and the ccurve for the chrome bit is different in the corners so i welded some little bits in.

its going to get dipped then ill paint it.

also i installed some relays for the starter, choke and ignition power.

also installed an electric fan. ill remove the stock fan, its not fitting right and i couldnt be fucked with it.

the boot floor was rusty as. wasn't sure what to do with it or how it would clean up etc.

so i asked Brent @Mr Vapour if he could come to mine with his wet blasting rig and clean it all up.

and he did just that. you could grind, hack, sand and fuck around for a month and not get it as good as he did in an hour. i now know exactly what im dealing with and everything is clean and ready for whatever happens next. tripple A plus, will trade again.

forgot to mention i got the rear bumper, brackets and a couple of other parts acid dipped. ive painted the brackets and put some primer on the bumper and that and tonight i put some colour on the air cleaner.

came up pretty good for an air cleaner.

air cleaner details.

because, everyone wants to know details about a 4M air cleaner.

this particular one is a very early one which has the vent pipe coming into the bottom and also the sides of the thing are part of the top, rather than the normal ones which have the sides as part of the bottom. the later ones also have 3 clips round the edge.

this one does not have that, so its aesthetically more pleasing, you can picture it in your mind as you're doing your yoga.

got most of the engine swap on Richards celica done so now i can get a bit more done on this car.

finished the bumper and front valance thing. theY needed a bit of rust repair and a bit of fucking around and now their painted.

i used a protech clear that ive had for ages and ive never really liked it. it goes on like its dry and i end up putting to much on to get it to wet out properly which resulted in a run. no big drama but these things happen.

oh and also, MERRY CRISSY!!!!!!!!!!!

spent today buttoning up the drivers side rear quarter.

the other MS75 i bought off Tom came with a full boot cut that happens to have the rear quarters attached. i had a dig around the boot cut rear quarter and it looked to be in pretty good nick so i cut the piece i needed off the boot cut and welded that to the coupe.

the eagle eyed among  you will notice that the sedan rear quarter is slightly shorter that the coupe, making the back of the wheel arch further back in the sedan than in the coupe. ill make a little piece to bring the wheel arch in line and its done. saved me heaps of time. would have been a few days making all the innerbits and getting everything fitting and welded up.

this was way quicker.

in other news i put the back bumper together after paint and its a fucking abortion. im fucking embarrassed as to how badly i got the curve wrong between the sedan bumper and the coupe chrome top piece. i dunno what to do with it. either ill re-do the whole thing of just slap it on and fix it when i paint the whole car. not sure but i am sure that its too bad to put a picture of it on the internet. 

 

Richie's starlet is arriving here tomorrow to get the engine bay painted so ill be a few days doing that before i can get back into this. i really want to get this thing complied and drive it around, its fucking rad.

finished Richies starlet and it came up mint.

so now i can do more on this.

i finished the last little piece for the drivers side but didnt take a picture.

then onto the pasingers side. started by making a new bottom for the spare tire well.

then i made the little triangle bit to finish off the rear quarter. needed to make a new inner bit and a few little pieces but it all cme together nicely.

despite spending half the day fucking around with the stupid washing machine i got some more done.

i didnt take and "before" pictures which i really should have, oh well, cant do anything about it now.

so i cut the rusty bits off the outer skin and reveled the inner which was in pretty good shape. one hole but the rest cleaned up with a bit of grinding.

made a patch for the inner skin and glued it in. i also made a new lip for the inner skin because it was a bit fucked and the spot welds were a bit fucked as well.

then i made the patches for the outer skin. the MS75 has a 45 degree angle bit on the lip so i made that on the bench and welded it up before welding the patch to the car. its way easier that way.

so tomorrow ive got to finish that little triangle bit and some small patches in the bottom of the sill then the rust is finished except for the boot floor.

cut open the sill to have a look at the inner piece which was a bit rusty so i cut it out and made a new bit.

then it was on to making a new outer skin. i cut the whole bottom off and just made one patch to make life easier. i made the arch lip and welded it on first, then stitched it all in.

ive got a sore back.

well its actually my leg thats sore but its a pinched nerve in my back thats causing it. ive been ignoring it and its been getting steadily worse but today i went and saw a specialist and i have to stop working on cars, or anything for that matter, for about the next 8 weeks, which blows. if i keep ignoring it ill wind up in back surgery and problems for the rest of my life so i aint going to be doing much for a while.

dumb because i wanted to take this car to leadfoot.

the eagle eyed among you will notice that at the bottom of my spine where it fucks off to the right there is a disk which has prolapsed into my nerve. 

its a long road to fix this. there is no fix really, you just wait and try not to do anything that will make it worse.

what makes it worse? moving as far as i can tell as well as being upright. both of those things so far have sucked to do, but it is getting better. very, very slowly.

ive been told i can do a few light things in between sitting down so ive been doing that. took the passengers door apart and just re-set things and greased stuff, got the key lock working better, just maintenance sort of stuff.

as you can see this has never been fucked with before, i was the fist person to remove the plastic off the inside of the door.

i spoke to Peter the rust defeater about the boot floor and he agreed to give me a hand and do the boot floor replacement for me. its nearly done. hes cut the old floor out, made the replacement panel fit and get it ready to weld in. ive painted it and tomorrow he'll weld it in. 

with this done the other things the car needs to go through compliance i should be able to do myself. we'll see.

Peter the rust defeater finished the boot. hes done an amazing job and once i tidy and paint it all up you wont be able to tell its been replaced.

with that done there was only one small bit left to do and the car is rust free so i did that.

it took me two days to make this small piece and weld it in. i can't do to much really before the leg tells me its time for a rest so yea, progress has slowed somewhat.

anywho, the welding is now finished.

Nick the sparky came over and sorted out putting relays into the power feeds for the electric windows so the switches don't take the full current. so that done and choice.

now i need to get the heater core reconditioned and install some new ball joints and tierod ends and then try to get it complied .

it'll take a while but i should be able to sort all that in between whinging about my leg/back.

came out really good so now i can put some seam sealer in the gaps and sand it all up ready for some colour.

i also painted the dash. it was looking a bit shit and the sliver edging was all fucked so i had a go at masking the edges and using some chrome spray paint to bring it back to life.

it came out super awesomeo! im really happy with it. the chrome isnt "chrome" as it was but its pretty close. sure looks way better than it did. im giving it a turbo win out of ten.

got the tail lights back in and the bumper on.

the gaskets that go around the tail light holes were all fucked so i bought some closed cell neoprene strip from para rubber and stuck that on. it worked a treat and now the tail lights are all sealed up.

so yea the back end is starting to come together, got an issue with the brake lights not working properly but that will be something minor, im pretty sure they all worked before i pulled it to bits.......

did a bit more.

i gave the patches i put in a bit of a tidy up and made the whole car red. i got some rattle cans matched and just used them. i fucked up a bit on the passengers side around the wheel arch and didn't cover the primer enough so now its showing after i gave it a polish. ill blaze some more paint on that bit and call it good.

i started trying to polish the paint to see if it would come up ok. 

it didn't.

its better i suppose but the paint is pretty fucked. anywho, ive only done one side.

ill paint the whole car at some point but i was kind of hoping it would come up a bit better.

pulled the mirrors apart because they were fucked.

the bolt/pin that holds the top part to the base was rusted through and they fell off when i started trying to move them.

i got the broken rusty bolt out and ill replace it with a new one. i need to make some conical washers but that shouldn't be to hard.

i do need to replace the springs. they are pretty impressive springs when you consider they are just to hold tension on the top swivel bit.

square wire (might have been round once but look like they were square to me)  reducing helix wound springs. if you know of something like this i can buy new hit me up, otherwise ill find something that will work in its place.

anzac day progress.

been feeling pretty good lately with the old back, im down to half my pain killers (except for today where i took some after breakfast because leg was turbo sore) so with that in mind ive been doing a bit more on the coupe.

today i installed new inner and outer tie rods, new upper and lower ball joints and a second hand but pretty good pitman arm. 

i also topped up the steering box with Molly grease which has made quite a big difference. lets be honest, the steering on these things is pretty hard but its slightly less shit now.

i have a power steering box to put in this which ill do after compliance. i dont have a bracket for the pump if anyone has one for a square port 4M.... 

so with that done i decided to go for a drive. the longest drive ive ever done in it, about 5Ks around the neighborhood. went up to westmere then down to the beach. this thing goes so well. 

the suspension is fucking ace, it dosent rattle or vibrate, the auto is smooth and changes perfectly and the motor hasn't turned to shit yet. the radio works and the heater /fan all works mint too. 

its fucking ace.

and your not gong to believe this but it did a skid turning right onto the main road!

ive got a few little things to tidy up but then its on to compliance!!!
