Bling
Have a browse of the project car section, there will be many people that have done exactly that. Read their threads, note down what works and what doesn't, and you're half way there. Looks to be relatively easy to do compared to some engine swaps. Good luck. Got any photos of the AE70? Shandangles
First piece of advice is......The gearbox is still called a K50 even tho its behind a A series engine. Will need a new fuel feed line (8mm ish) from the tank to the engine bay, use the standard feed as the return. Will need a "custom" clutch basically a 4age cover and a K50 splined plate. the rest is just wiring pretty much, factory radiator etc will be fine, stick to using all FWD water pumps and pullys etc rwd shit is expensive and uncecessary. samsnz
sry i used a50 just to illustrate i had an a series bellhousing.i hadnt thought about the FWD vs RWD tax actually thats a really good point

samsnz
does anyone know if 3a engine mounts will fit to 4Age?
beachlander
They should do yes. Otherwise get some ae86 mounts. Will need to sort out fuel pump if going injected. Vl pump is good enough for that job.

samsnz
does anyone know if there is any real advantage/disadvantage to having or removing T-VIS? i know about the air velocity thing at low RPM but does it really make any huge difference? japawagons
Toyota spent a shtload of money on coming with the term T-VIS, rather than actually testing the improvement of airflow characteristics to the engines they fitted it to, don't see why you'd need it... samsnz
ok off it comes it would seem
Bling
Lots of articles cover TVIS, have a google before going one way or the other. Or get a blacktop 20V for max dorts. Depends on the budget? If I was putting a 4age in mine, i'd go blacktop for sure, great engines. Personal opinion etc.
governorsam
got a spare engine and loom, computer bits if needed. brought as a job lot, not needed anymore.
samsnz
I've already sourced my 16v. goin mainly for an easy swap and because im using all the standard ae70 drivetrain.
Sambo
Is there a particular reason you want to ditch the TVIS?
samsnz
i had no real opinion about it either way ive just heard a lot of bagging on it. but in equal measure the stuff that i have read and dyno graphs ive seen on standard 4age with T-VIS it definately seems to help
Sambo
That's what I was going to say. If you're leaving the engine standard and it's working fine then why bin it? Toyota didn't put it in for no reason. I used to love it when TVIS opened at 3400rpm. TVIS just kicked in y0.
samsnz
after a decent google i think ima keep it. is there a way to know if it will function or not? i pulled it off and when depressed the diaphragm seems to hold vaccuum fine but beyond giving it a clean up i have no idea if it will work or not?
