Would ATF be bronze safe?

I have a few old gearboxes in my shed and I found some of them have become rusty inside from condensation.

I was going to fill them to the top with ATF for storage as I have a lot of it,  dose anyone know if ATF is yellow metal safe?

Hmmm, interesting. I would have thought any deposits left would be from the oil oxidising, which is only going to happen with some heat and air present. I can't see how that would happen with the gearboxes brimmed, and obviously not being run like that?

Although you will probably have to tip them on the side to do that, as the filler will be half way up the side.

mmm it must be ok for a gl4 aplaction if they say on there spec sheet.

There top loaders. I bit the bullet and filled them up with gl4 and I will keep them some where I can turn them every few days to keep all the gears oiled.

the Essex gearbox I had in storage has all of the tops of the gears badley pitted. I should have turned it over every now and then.
