junglesponge
Hey everyone. I am restoring a old mk2 cortina to near original condition. Im still working on bodywork but thought I might make a start on getting my engine rebuilt diy. I have removed the head to find that the bores have already been done to a 0.50 as it says on the piston and looked around the bottom end to find it in good condition. But the head was toast. So I dont care to much on race performance its just gonna be a crusier but I wanna know from you guys what you reckon would be some must dos without breaking the bank. Im getting my new head crack tested as I write and am going to get a skim and the exhaust valve seats done because apparently 91 octane gas stuffs em. Im gonna get some valves for it and some told me to get 1600 ones as I can get good seating again. Also what should I look for in the bottom end in the way if wear and tearwhich could be problem later? SO any help and knowledge would be great thanks... Rookie
Put 1100 pistons in it and a cam, they are easy and relatively cheap to do while it is apart, other than that just inspect the bearings, if you aren't going to beat on it then they are probably fine as long as it had good oil pressure before you pulled it apart. other than that, hot tank the block and clean everything and rea assemble. punkoutnz
I've actually got a ported head for a 1300 that's going to be of little use to me cos I'm now building a 1600 if you're interested. I may have some pistons too but I'm not sure what overbore they are, I haven't looked to see whether they're 1300 or 1600 pistons yet tbh, haha. junglesponge
What does the 1100 piston do different to the 1300?

two_days_late
Electronic Dizzy is probably a good option too if you're looking for better drivability
