waylowkp
currently running ae92 inserts with factory springs that had 2 coils "fall off", currently rides on the bump stops however, any suggestions of better springs to put in?
Seedy Al
How have you got the inserts placed? I assume you have a spacer in there? is it at the top or the bottom?
Bling
any suggestions of better springs to put in? Ones that are designed to sit at the height you want, not chopped springs would be a good start. Cobra will make them to your specs.
waylowkp
no spacer, used the ke70 outer sleeve with the ae92 insert then put back in the struts, ive never attempted this before and was just going off what a mate told me whos done it this way before, any instruction or help would be greatly appreciated
durty
ae92 inserts should be way too short I think so would need a spacer to stop them bouncing around inside the shock tube
Steelies
yup they must be like a cock in a sock without the spacer. and cut the bumps down
Rookie
Yea, the ae92 inserts I had in ke70 struts needed a 40 mm spacer, and were smaller in diameter too.
Rookie
Also cut springs are fine if you do them Roman spec.
waylowkp
they dont move around at all as i used the ke70 outer sleeve so it was the same length, just put the insert itself in if that makes sense?
Steelies
weird, they should be shorter. possibly they are and the tight fit doesnt allow them to be moved by hand? just guessing here. by the way i also shortened my insert spears to hold choppies captive. in a KP but same deal. waylowkp
it is possible, does any know if there is a thread on here explaining step by step how to do this?
ryanfels
they dont move around at all as i used the ke70 outer sleeve so it was the same length, just put the insert itself in if that makes sense? By insert do you mean the bar/rod/piston and by sleeve, you mean the casing the bar/rod/piston goes in?
Steelies
there is one for making factory struts into coilovers but not sure on short inserts how-to dismantle and clean out struts measure to bottom (inside) of strut body, where the insert goes. measure length of insert body, top to bottom make spacer (something metal and relatively solid, ie not rolled up coke can) to suit length difference *paying attention to make sure the threaded strut cap bottoms out on the insert, not the strut body. so tightening force is actually locating the insert. put spacer in the bottom put insert in screw the caps on check for movement edit - oh yeah good question ryan
Rookie
Manu knows whats up, when I did mine I had to make the spacer into a cup (and one for the top) to locate the insert concentrically as well, the ae92 insert was smaller diameter than the strut body. waylowkp
ryanfels, yeah thats exactly right, that could be where i went wrong haha
Rookie
So you didn't use two of these?
ryanfels
In that case, buy a pair of these that come from an ae92 levin then do as Steelies says
waylowkp
we removed the insert from the strut entirely and made two inserts out of the two ke and two ae92 inserts
durty
were they oil filled shocks?
ryanfels
Yea but that ae92 rod will be far to short for whats been designed for the ke70 insert casing which will be why you're hitting bumpstops far to easy
