felixx
OK I fitted new front shoes last weekend.. all good. Brake pedal was firm, car stopped, didnt pull to one side or anything. I was stoked. Drove from chch - kaiapoi and back (50km) Pedal appeared fine when I got home. Nek minnit Pedal starts getting soft. I adjusted the brakes as per my Haynes manual, pedal appeared firmish Now it is soft as can be, so I removed drums - front and rear, could not see brake fluid anywhere Sprayed whole brake assembly with brake cleaner Replaced drums and adjusted brakes. Soft as pedal I then undadjusted the brakes so all 4 wheels were locked to see what the pedal would do with no movement of shoes possible... soft pedal What gives? Previous info. Had issues with soft pedal in the past was a leaky brake line. Valiant sorted this. New master cylinder and slaves on rear 4 wheel drum brakes Cheers for any help

felixx
LOL yes I do. Fluid level has not appeared to drop. Shall I bleed them just incase there is a bubble somewhere?

felixx
Aircooled.. would they need bleeding after replacing shoes. I didnt replace any cylinders
CaMpylobacter
pull back boot from master cyl: see if any pooz/fluid comes out. if none, do same for all wheel cylinders. check condition of all rubber hoses. if you've got someone spare, get them to stand on the pedal while you look at said hoses in case they look ok but are ballooning. if none: bleed. anglias usually run drums and unboosted single circuit systems huh? should be a piece of piss. My name is Russell
Have you had the calipers off? Any possibility you have put them back on upside down? Edit i see they are all drums, so probably doesn't apply. Can drum slaves have the same issue if fitted upside down as calipers?
governorsam
get someone to pump the brakes on and off while you grab the rubber brake hose to the brakes. if you feel any movement in the hose.... replace. have come across it on motorcycles. makes things spongy cheers. Llama
I duno what kind on lines a Anglia runs, but I had issues with a copper line that had been hit by something (probably tow hook) and it was acting like a one-way valve, causing uber spongyness
