Vintage Grumble
Silly question, but, if something has been first reg'ed at a certain date, but is infact 4 years older, is there any way to have the reg date changed? Looking at an item, which is a 1970 model, but is red'eg as a 74 (has been re-red'ed so not sure if it was changed then?) I only ask as it would be up for cheap ass rego (I'd save like $900 in rego over 3 years) if I could get it changed to the correct date. Doable or nah? Borgweiser
I don't see why not, if you can get a certificate from the manufacturer or club and find a valid reason why the dates were mucked up. Would need to be backed up by chassis numbers etc. They used to go off date of first registration, I have seen a 83 Mk2 Escort, as it hung around at the back country dealers so long without selling. KKtrips
First Regd is only the date it was first registered in NZ - could have been registered overseas first. I'm guessing you are talking 40 year classic rego status - AFAIK its based off date of manufacture rather than first reg date... LTNZ or whatever they are called this week will be the place to approach and ask them to clarify your reg date..
Vintage Grumble
Yeh, the frame and engine numbers point to it being a 1970 model, and they stopped making them in 73, but its first reg was 1st Jan 1974. I'll have to ring the LTSA and see what they say I guess, 1/3rd rego cost would be nice! Edit: Just read KKs post, it says its NZ new on carjam, and yeh, im after the classic rego bizo, would be mean if it was done by build year rather than rego date, will check it out. Churs. KKtrips
I guess it depends on what Trev down the ol Toyota dealership chucked on the form as manufacture date - he most probably sold it over a jug or three at the pub and was half pished/had whacked through half a pack of Winnie reds with old Pete from up on the farm in Thames. Dodgy beady eyed cunt most probably curled up a stiffie in his brown stubbies when he wrote down 1974 as manufacture date cos it looked like he was selling a brand spankers vehicle. in short - you're fucked for 2 more years unless you can convince the LTNZ/LTSA/FLANZ otherwise.. Vintage Grumble
Talked to the LTSA, it goes by the first rego date/the date in their system, not the build year. They said you could get all the dates and shit to prove its a 1970 model, but they still may not change it for you, so sounds like it may be pointless. DAMN YOU LTSA! japawagons
For a few many years VTNZ and other places used to muck up cars when they were being reregistered and put incorrect first registration dates on the system. I've seen many cars like this, we do alot of warrants for a vintage car restorer in TA and he has a few cars that have suffered from this. If you can prove it and persist with enough effort I'm sure you could get it changed but as with everything with the NZTA you will need to hound them with repetitive phone calls and most likely will be the luck of the draw of finding someone with the authority and the patience to deal with it. Good Luck. Worth a shot I guess.
peteretep
Cheap reg is based on year first regd, my escort was made in December 1970 but registered feb 71 so cheap reg came in 2011. It turns over on jan 1st of the year first regd Alternatively the info is on the lisa website so have a look on there
Llama
I was told I can get my MGB changed from a 76 to a 72 provided I have a manufactures certificate and something from the car club. I claimed it was important because I was failing wofs due to the different requirements/equipment between the model years.
