J-W-G
Hey guys just contemplating things to do with the escort for when i get outta school Just a few questions first. Okay so from what ive searched 6cyl Cortina diffs can take falcon lsd heads? Wanting something close to my escort ratio (3.54) with lsd. I will be running flares as i like the look of them and love wide wheels Also a falcon diff is an option as there is an XF falcon diff up at the grand parents with disks will need shortening but has lsd and 3.45 ratio i think? Any other options keeping in mind the engine choices of mine? Would like i have a coilover setup! Pros and cons? Also engine wise, Im thinking CA18DET, 4AGZE, or Pinto, then again dads got a fully worked cortina GT race spec kent but thats been sitting in that crashed cortina in a field up north for years so unknown condition. Any suggestions and help appreciated Got big plans for the Escort!
Mr.Mk1
Depends 100% on your budget and skills available
Gaz
Adjustables in the front yes. Ca18det + 4agze is a whole diff kettle of fish to a Pinto or Kent, huge differance in power and also effort to get into hole. Considered zetec or Duratec? Cheap as from pickapart! LSD, shorten the flacon one from grandad or get a hilu one and shorten.... 3.54 is suited to the kent or pinto, but wont be that great for a ca18det or 4agze or any other jappa engine for that matter. J-W-G
Okay so what ratio will i need to look at? 3.7 or 4.1ish? Zetec and duratec parts availability compared to CA or 4age?
Gaz
4ish usually for Jappas, depends what you want from car really. A 3.54 behind the jappa gbox would make it go off the clock in 2nd haha, maybe not that drastic but you get the idea. Zetec parts not as avaliable in NZ, have to go ex UK. Zetec would also def need aftermarket ECU and tune where CA could run of standard CA ECU. CA into escort is a good option really, is small and fits pretty easy, problem is that they are getting old so plan for a rebuild on engine. Whats your budget and skillset as this plays the largest part? Gaz
J-W-G
No budget at the moment but will look at options and work around them. So the CA is a good option? Pros and cons? My skill sets pretty low to be honest but im willing to learn
Valiant
Low on skills you say? I would look at this. Kent Engine, Sierra or Toyota box, 3,45 Sport diff, do some work on your suspension. You can buy LSD's to fit your Escort diff from Quafe and Palmside. I would look into doing that, it gets expensive quickly if you can't do the work your self. My name is Russell
Do an engine thats originally RWD would be my 5 cents. Go CA or SR or bp IMO good for after market parts no point re inventing the wheel.
QCADTA
ca18s are good engines and have more than enough power for something as light as an escort, but if your low on skills or not that mechanically minded it might not be worth it, and if your not into wiring then theres another prob unless you can afford to pay an auto sparky. Gaz
^^^ yup good place to start learning is the 2l pinto. zeven a standard on in an escort makes a fun nippy car. Gaz
J-W-G
Thanks heaps for the replies, I think ill go with Valients ideas and start with a pinto and toyota gearbox, play around with the suspension. Not too hard by the sounds of it and looks like a straight forward learning curve Is it worth the hassle converting the rear drums to disk? RT
Regarding adjustables - I wouldn't bother if your only reason is to have it really low. This is a common misconception as they can only go as low as the spring platform hitting the tyre in most cases. So if your plan was to get adjusties so you could wind em right down and drive around sacked out all the time.. you might as well save your coin and just get lowered springs. That's what I think anyway others will prolly disagree
J-W-G
Thanks for all the replies. Will get a build thread up soon
DavidTheCreator
i would suggest going with a pinto due to the low skillset unless you have heaps of coin to pay someone to do it
J-W-G
Yeah im definitely swaying towards a pinto but dont really wana go to the 2.0l so is the 1.6l pinto worth it over my 1.6l kent?
BeastyBlue
keep your 1600 and slap on some sidedraughts and a race cam, i'd kill to have something like this in my esky! http://www.trademe.co.nz/motors/car-par ... 812022.htm
J-W-G
Shit yeah! That would go hard, just hope if i stay with the Kent that it dosent end up costing that much!
DavidTheCreator
depends what you do to it, pinto = a bit more power then a 1600 and lots more torque for not much effort imo you would spend heaps n heaps to get the same power/torque out of a 1600 as you would a pinto
J-W-G
So pinto it is then! Anyone got a 1.6 pinto round?
