bubblegoose
car: DX diesel corolla issue: wont start, charge light only when key is turned main + wire from the alternator got caught up in the pully and shorted out when the engine was stopped been though the basics fuses/relays all are in good order, what else could have blown from this? or if anybody has a wiring diagram that would help a millions
QCADTA
hasnt stuffed up the pre heating of the glow plugs?

Thousand Dollar Supercar
Preheating of glow plugs or functionality of voltage regulator wouldn't keep the engine from turning over on the starter motor. Have you tested the battery, just by turning the headlights on or something? Maybe that could have been damaged by being shorted... Or maybe an earth lead like the engine earth strap burnt out and is open circuit..
bubblegoose
battery/earths are fine, its like the ignition switch isnt going past the first turn (switch is ok too)
Valiant
There is a good chance there is a fuseable link/main fuse somewhere under the bonet, thats where I'd start.

R100
Sounds like your battery is flat. Put it on charge over night and try again.
bubblegoose
battery, fuse's and links were the first things checked it has voltage where i think voltage should be but with out a full wiring diagram its hit and miss
R100
So when you turn the key what happends ? Does it crank over nice and fast like it should ?
Corbie
Run a jumper lead from battery to starter motor. could be its just not getting enough juice. my main battery cable failed once even though it seemed normal.
QCADTA
so are you getting 12v to the alternator with the key turned on? maybe youve blown 1 of the diodes in the alternator? read this. http://www.aa1car.com/library/charging_checks.htm
bubblegoose
ok key goes in, turn once and usual lights come on turn more than that and nothing happens, the lights don't dim there are no clicks (other than the main relay clicking on) the alternator still has power but a fried diode wouldn't stop it starting anyway the cable to the starter has almost 0 resistance though it so its still good and the starter still works is manual jumped as to the glow plugs and diesel solenoid im 99.99% certain it has to have melted a wire between the ign switch and engine loom, but cant find which so its now at mr auto sparky
