You don't want to see my panel work. Not much of it is there.

I've owned it since 2003, I took it off the road... uhh.. a few years ago because it had a crack in the windscreen, I removed the windscreen to fix what I thought was a little bit of rust. Turned out there was no rust where the crack was, but there was rust everywhere else.

I've been lacking in cash/fulltime hours for a while and as such haven't been able to do anything on it in the last while. Anything I do though, I usually throw onto my site. You can browse all the entries on it by clicking the "110-Project" category link on RC.

oh yea guess not wouldn't wanna wreck it just don't want it to feel like such a boat.

so would they use a leaf of my other set of gto springs or make up a special one.

what sort of place do i contact to do this? (garage or there special places for this

type of thing) from what iv herd nolethane bushes would stiffen it up is this true?

Not quite tramp rods but similar, click of the images below to have a look. These are from an MR that was for sale in Japan a few years ago.

I wouldn't use your other set of GTO springs, but you could if you wanted. To get the springs reset is a specialist job and I'm not sure who does it in Taranaki?

When I had an extra leaf added it was put in the middle of the stack of 4 so that should give you an idea of the length, as I no longer have that car so can't show a photo. New bushes don't really stiffen, but rather tighten up the rear. To really improve the handling replace the shocks and put in a larger front sway bar, but the biggest killer is the make sure the steering is tight (a gto problem area).

Just out of interest what is the diameter of the front eye of your spare springs as I'm about to see if I can find some as there are 2 size listings for the early Galants?

oh how do they work i wouldn't have those mounts would i. yea someone said to put two sway bars

in one below the existing one does this work as i have a spare sway bar, its got new shocks all round

apparently. the back ones are def new i cant tell if front ones are and new springs in the front. ill have

to call around for the leaf springs

No, you wont have those mounts sadly. They work by restricting the movement of the diff. It's probably easier to use a single larger sway bar rather than having to fabricate additional mounts, but I imagine it is doable.

Your car shouldn't be handling too poorly if it has newish shocks etc so is there a particular aspect you don't like i.e. the twisty stuff or straight ahead stability? When was the last time the car had a wheel alignment? Remember it is almost a 40 year old car with a particularly heavy engine for the body weight so turn-in can be a little delayed and sloppy steering can make response vague.

omg i half expected this thread to be dead (like any other gto thread haha)

and here i find it's got 38 posts already

@michael there can be little doubt we need our own gto subforum now

@jesse, listen to dwlee and start bringing the wear & tear bits up to snuff

(that's what i'm in the process of doing atm as well) once that's all sorted you can explore fine tuning

as for rear bar, some guys say use them and other guys say they're worthless on a car with properly re-set leafs

and no i'm not in nz (although if i talk like i am it's due to dwlee's influence--haha) my gto and i are living in southern california now

ps, fell in love with this car years ago (but my lovely memory was dashed later when i was told it was a bogmobile)

lol thanx

arnt they all.. lol still good looking car!!!

and dwlee i couldnt measure the id because its still in the half car ill remove it later in the week an

measure it properly but the od was 59mm if this helps

i dont mind the cornering is more getting it to hold better at higher speeds, its like a boat.

i guess new bushes and a wheel alignment would help the old bushes are in poor shape
