ESKIN8R
Low speed circuit on carb may be blocked or mixture set very lean, or timing out
DavidTheCreator
doesnt run at all if turn the dizzy

peteretep
can you get a reading off the timing gun? the timing may be way far out
DavidTheCreator
firing order is right can get a reading from the timing light but it is way out still, like 40-45 degrees
QCADTA
not a few teeth out on the cambelt or something stupid?
DavidTheCreator
will check that on the weekend but apparently the old owner had the engine running so suspect the cam timing to be ok what would stale fuel do that? it had 1/4 of a tank of fuel in it and then i out 8 ltrs of 91 ontop of that
peteretep
not likely to be fuel imo
Unclejake
If the timing is showing 45 degrees out and you are confident the firing order is correct then I suggest you move the plug leads over one post on the dizzy cap and then see what happens. Points dizzy and are the points gapped and in good nick?
DavidTheCreator
yea points dizzy, points are ok will try that tomorrow, thanks

Testament
^ useful advice, or normally I would say the block head crank and associated ancilliarys and attached parts are the problem. but being serious rather than being a hater doing hating - do these silly things have hydraulic lifters or mechanical? if mechanical have you checked the valve clearance? I would still think timing out + carb set wrong/blocked internally. if you set the timing where it should be and spray engine start down it will it run? DavidTheCreator
will try what and let u know
Unclejake
Fierce, from what you have already told us the spark is firing at the wrong time in relation to the pistons. The above is backed up by the spark obviously firing (or having recently fired) when an intake valve is slightly open, giving you a spit back. A simple compression test will give you a good idea as to the cam/crank phasing - but I expect there is nothing wrong with it. IMHO your spark is jumping to the wrong post inside the dizzy cap. I.e. the spark is firing when the rotor is about half way between two dizzy cap terminals - hence your timing light shows the timing to be 45 degrees out. What firing order are you using?
