4evaevo
i have a 1600 xflow in a 1300 escort with cosworth a2 cam, 1300 pistons and i am having trouble with it over heating, i have done the timing with a timing light so its not that. do you think i need a bigger radiator? cheers Ryan. Leebo3
Is it the stock 1300 radiator? I believe they are smaller than the factory 1600 ones, so yeah a bigger radiator should do it.
fuel
Hi I know you are new but a question like this belongs in the tech section and not the general section - I have taken the liberty of moving it for you this one time but next time it will simply be deleted. Also regarding your question, does it overheat at all times or only under load or while sitting idle in traffic? Does the engine 'pink' at all when it overheats? I would probably pull the radiator out and get it cleaned out and put it back in, and check that the thermostat is actually opening etc.
Unclejake
The radiator could well be inadequate - but what carburation are you using? These motors are sensitive to mixture and whilst they run fantastically well lean, they do get hot.
4evaevo
i have put a bigger radiator in (a 1600 one i think). but now i seam to be having trouble with the spark it is shorting from the hi tension on the coil to the negative.

4evaevo
Yep. same thing still happened. It only shorts when the points are touching
d.p.n.s
here is a few things i would do mate 1. take the thermostat out and run it with out it and see if its still doing it. 2.try a differand radiator or try flushing yours. 3. give the hole water way a flush. 4.also when its running see if the water is flowing with the rad cap off as the fins on the waterpumps sometimes fuck out. 5 if you are running the standard 1300 rad i would swap to a 2.0 cortina one. work much better in the past ive seen things like thermostat in the wrong way,fan on the wrong way even electric fans wired up backwards dan
4evaevo
got her going again but shes running realy ruff. I did a compression test and the results were: piston one 150psi, two 150, three 135, four 150 pistion 3 seam rather low, So i started it up and took no 3 spark plug lead off and it made no difference to the running. Then i took the head off, the head gastket was fine, the bore was in good condition too. when i was turning the engine over by hand (with the head off) it had a slight hard patch is that normal?
