m0ss4yy
Got twin stombergs on the hunter, and can't find a twin choke cable anywhere, and the bike shops near where I live reckon they can't make anything up or alter something I already have. Rang a few brake and clutch places near where I live, and they suggested to make some sort of mechanism or ask a bike shop. So back to square one.. Any ideas?? m0ss4yy
make some sort of mechanism? Yeah, that was my orignal thought but I can't figure out quite how...
mikuni
I thats going to be the best way, even a twin choke cable setup would just be messy. Best way is to find out how the chokes actuate and then just link both of them together with a rod or something similar and then just actuate either one of them with a single cable. kyteler
Rangi, but... Get two choke cables of a similar length, run them through to the same point at the dash, cut the cable off the end of the bar of one and use a small clamp or solder/weld/braze the cable onto the end of the other bar. Yeah? Nah? Too Easy/Rangi?
m0ss4yy
Haha, I had thought of that aswell.. But I dont think it'd work that well because of the difference in the cables. I know how they actuate, but the problem is, they arent like most twins, where everything is linked, only the throttle is linked. The choke mechanism is on the same side for both carbs (left if looking at the inlet), and there is nothing going through the body to create a linkage. Some sort of mechanism would have to go either underneath the body of the carb, or over the top. So I'm struggling a bit at the minute
mikuni
ky's solution would work as long as you fixed the out side of the cable securely so that any movement when pulling the choke acted on both cables in the same way. That seems the easiest, cheapest and probably best solution at the moment due to the failspec of those carbs. Or just run 2 cables altogether
kyteler
I have a twin choke cable setup at home from the SU's that were on my C110 and it's pretty much the same deal, two separate cables, right through to the lever.
m0ss4yy
Might take the choke cable out of the aunty's Daihatsu Charade il try run the two cables together off the one lever, that'd be the best way to do it for now..
Unclejake
Repco used to sell aftermarket choke cables with the knob and underdash mounting included for fuck all money. You could just fit two if you have room. Would add bling
m0ss4yy
Yeah I was thinking of that but i really need to make a linkage thing so that they are both choked the exact same amount at all times, otherwise the mixture will be fucked
kyteler
Well, for the amount of time you should be under choke conditions, it wouldn't matter fuckall.
m0ss4yy
yeah, but I have no thermostat lol.. Took it out ages ago cos it opened at like 105degrees
mikuni
You'd just need a bit of choke/heaps when cold but once its warm you could back them right off. It won't cause any issues them not being absolutely perfect. /put a new thermo in if you have created an issue by removing the faulty one That will save a lot of hassle. m0ss4yy
I need to set my carbs up right first, because before when i had the single, i would give it a tiny bit of choke and it was sweet, go any more and it'd stall. so im gonna do it all properly for the twins this time around
kyteler
Replace your fucking thermostat then? Dear Gods man.
m0ss4yy
It runs all good without one, just takes a couple of mins to warm up in the morning. And i siliconed the thermostat housing shut cause it was leaking ages ago. I just need to find the right thermostat.. I think it was an 82 degree one..
