solidstripe
Hey all, the tumblers in my iginition went the other day, so I took the steering surrounds off and started playing with the barrel. Ended up taking the back of it off and can start the engine by turning it (with the key, a flathead, icecream stick, anything) and thought all was sweet. Untill I went to reverse out of the driveway and the steering lock is jammed on. Any rangi mods I can do to get it to release?
Brock-Lee
you can take the end off the sttering barrel. pull the guts of it out and then pull the lock out. or just turn the wheel really hard and break the lock off. I reccomend option #1 for elegance of solution, but #2 for fun/lols
MACKAZ
I broke a steering column staft of a Gemini trying to do option #
Unclejake
Option #2 = A bad day when the broken pawl ends up back in the hole during a motorway lane change. Wall. Fire. Death.
solidstripe
And the winner is... Option #1! (kind of, mixed with option 2) Eastwing hammer + flathead screwdriver / back of the iginition barrel = FTW! Wasn't really sure what you ment brock, but took your suggestion and found what I thought was the problem and smacked it with the hammer. That usually works. Hammertime ALLWAYS wins. It's enough to get me to work tomorrow anywho hopefully. Took it for a quick spin seems allright, it isn't locked and wasn't looking like it was going to. (i'm pretty sure it's pretty well bent up in there) Will take it all out on the weekend to make sure it's all good.
Brock-Lee
haha, I meant you pull the guts of the lock mechanism out and then make sure the actual locking pin comes out too. as you dont really want what UJ mentioned happening. its scary, and that was only at low speeds. RUNAMUCK
just undo the torque to fail bolt heads using a center punch to undo them.
OSM Garage
^^^ thats the easiest, cleanest way. Use a centre punch or chisel to turn the 2 round headless bolts undone. Or if your ruff as a mutha fucka, use a monkey wrench and pry the fucker off!
