Should be the same with ea71's as it is with most engines, turn it over till number 1 cyl is at TDC comp stroke and whack the dizzy in so the rotor points to the number 1 spot of the dizzy cap.

i was right then

that means i got something wrong earlier

i tryed setting 1 to tdc and pointing the rotor at the No1 point in the cap and all it did was shoot smoke out the exhaust and carb may have to tweak around tomorrow

nah i set it to tdc by watching the tappets and with a screwdriver in the plug hole

so i know it was accurate as

I have done that myself and got it wrong. Try again :D

Easily done by myself also

ok so it idles fine and sits happily at max revs (what ever that is) and cylinder 1 is firing at 5dbtdc on idle

but i get a real evil misfire and occasionally a flame fire back out the carb at about 4500 (just a guess)

any ideas?

all new plugs, leads rotor and cap, 155-175psi compression on each cylinder, im completly stuck on what next to try

Check the power valve operation in the carb. If all electrical things are ok it might be blown or damaged

Try to find it on the net man cause it has been a while since I looked in one of those carbs.

The function is to give you the power between idle and main jets to stop back firing and smooth acceleration.

It is normally mounted in the center of the carb but alot of hitachi carbs (assuming you have this type) have them in the fuel bowl also.

never realy stripped a car carb they just look too messy would be heaps easier if it was fitted with bike carbs :doubt: hmm.........nah

idf's would be better.....just do it there is so much info available these days.

you could try teeing into your distributor line to see if the vacume advance/retard has a blown diaphram on either side. That would also give symptoms like these.

Lastly have you tried another set of leads and plugs (if you have a spare engine)
