Testament
also - sooooo throw away the points and get an electronic distributor, the improvement is very significant.
Brock-Lee
how do I go about doing that? lol, is there a direct replacement?
Testament
It depends on the engine, most manufacturers changed to electronic distributors in the late 70's so very often there is a factory item from a later model car that you can just swap in along with the associated controller and coil. If not there are some kits to gut a points dist. and put a trigger system inside. But I'm pretty sure they made l20b till around 1980 sometime? so there probably is a factory item off something that is suitable if you can find one. Brock-Lee
mines an 84 and it still has points, might have to go with aftermarket. or not as I dont have that much cash to throw at it
Testament
true, datsun is budget as 1984 and still points beeeooooo. But ok, points still work so not the end of the world but would definitely help with reducing fouled plugs easy starting etc. etc. as give more powerful spark. RUNAMUCK
What heat range are you running? In the past I've run pone hotter plug to try overcome a fouling problem when a motors been getting sad on one cylinder.
forced
If it's overfuelling, then it's the carb. Modding the ignition is just a bandaid allowing fouled plugs to fire a bit better. Steve
MACKAZ
When I raced my datto 1600 it did this all the time.No amount of fucking around with mixtures and shit fixed it. Put another carb on it and sweet, no more issues. i also know how to make these carbs mechanical secondaries and its very simple, looks standard too. MACKAZ
With a notched washer. Fuck need a carb handy to tell you how to do it. Hard to explain/easy to do though.
