hhmmmmm is the diff fuked?

hi all

finaly got my driveshaft made for my van and just took it for a drive

seems ok till i take my foot of the pedal and it starts whinning and making soundslike the tyres are rubbing

or driveshaft is rubbing the underside but they arent.

any ideas

diff,bearings?

hmmmmmmmmm thrust bearing /does the sound stop when the clutch is pushed in has the diff got oil it will need to be changed if its been sitting /check the seals around the axels/or its about to blow :twisted: id say the oils fucked and its basicly water now let me know and ill send you another one bro

Are you saying that the noise (and vibration??) are only on over-run?

It won't be the thrust bearing if that is the case and is more likely the diff pinion bearing - which is sort of common on small Ford diffs. A diff head change should only take 90 minutes or so.

my old rx7 did that,then one day i went for a drive and it went bang and you could hear the pinion spinning on the crownwheel.

turned out the pinion bearing was buggered and caused the pinion teeth tips to wear out and there was nothing left to grab...luckily i was only 200m from home..

I've got a spare diff - 3.9 I think - but there's not way I'm carting that in on the bus... :D
