Guest Westmk2
The 1300 in my escort is running abit weird. so here is the story. Coming back from work yesterday on the motorway, in fourth gear going about ninety k's the revs like halve and then the gear shift starts vibrating and i hear loud splutering from the engine. It only happens when i go up a slight incline and then when i go back down the hill it works fine. I have no idea what the problem is, maybe the engine is getting to cold cos of the cold air? The temp gauge reads like 60-70 when im on the motorway. Help would be sweet Chur
Gaz
Check fuel filters. Then take carb of and clean. Would be my first steps.
Unclejake
Could have dropped a cylinder. Checked spark plug leads are on tight?
Snoozin
I'd be checking for a blocked idle jet, making sure all plugs and leads are present and correct, then look for an air/vacuum leak after that.

Coming back from work yesterday on the motorway, in fourth gear going about ninety k's the revs like halve and then the gear shift starts vibrating and i hear loud splutering from the engine. I'm guessing like Gaz it's a fueling issue. It's a wee bit of a pain but next time it happens and you can do it safely, turn the key off and pull a plug or 2. If it was missing due to over fueling the plugs will have a light deposit of soot. It only happens when i go up a slight incline and then when i go back down the hill it works fine. Does it always do this or does it only do it sometimes? If is is consistant that the angle of the car seems to be making a difference this is a clue that should help diagnose the fault. Check your plugs like Uncle Jake said becasue it could be as simple as when you are on a hill the coil lead is loosing connection or it's crapping out and when you are going up hill it's touching something and leaking current. I'm not good with carbs so this is a stab in the dark but I'd check that the float bowl level is set correctly. It could be that the fuel bowl is getting over full when you go up a hill and it's casuing it to run way rich. This is why I'd check the plugs for running rich when the issue is happening... sholdowa
Sounds like a weak spark to me. OK until loaded, then can't ignite the mix when the going gets a bit tougher...
