RT
I got 180hp at the rears, but I'd increased the boost since then and never got it back on the dyno as the exhaust was strangling it. I would expect Josh to get 230-240hp at the rears with it with a bigger turbs and that decent dump pipe he's sorted out. Ya never know though, it will be interesting to see. Guest mk1 escort mad
I can sence you guys may be a little jelous LOL I will clear this situation up for you. I should have said it may be able to run 300hp or over, my mistake. I got the engine brought over from the states for me, it still has not been started, I was told by the builder of the engine (who was going to use it in a escort drag car) that I should be able to get 300hp or over, if I do everthing wright with the tuning etc, but i will only know the true power of the engine when I get it dynoed and properly tuned. From what you guys have told me the guy I brought the engine off must have been taking shit about getting 300+ hp from a pinto it probaly will only be in the high 200 hp power region, which will be fine with me. But It has had a shit load of mods done on it and money spend on it, so I cant wait to see the final outcome of its power. It was not cheap to buy by any means, but cost me less to buy then what it was going to cost to get one built up from scratch with the same specs. It is running a garrett 2560R-466541-4, turbo which I was told is good for around 320hp so fingers crossed it will hit 300hp The reason why I say money is not a problem and I can get parts cheap is because my Uncle owns a wreckers yard, with a whole lot of nice parts lying around, which I can basically buy from him for next to nothing. My family is also very car orientated and I have been around many car build ups ( this being my first) my other uncle is also a professional hot rod builder, so I can always fall back on them for some help if i get in the shit with this build, but there knowledge mostly lies with the big old american v8s and they are not to good with turbo engines, or japanese gearboxs etc, and I do not much about engines and gearboxs myself, that is why I came onto here to ask for help. I am a fabricator by profession and I will do all metal work on the car myself, such as rollcage, gearbox tunnell, Turrents etc. I would have gone for a more modern engine, and saved myself a whole lot of hassle, but I like old school, and I want something a little different then every other turbo engine out there. I know this is not going to be an easy project and it is going to take alot of work and time. Anyway thanks for your guys help but I did not come on here to be questioned about my engine, I came on here to get some help with what running gear I should use. I will not be using this site anymore, I will go elsewhere for help, as this just seems to have turnt into a whos right who wrong, this guy must be lying discussion and is not really any help to me at all, but feel free to keep arguing about it amongst yourselves and trying to prove each other wrong. I had heard goods things about this site, and I was hoping to get some help. Obviously not. Cheers
RT
get a grip mate, nobody was telling you you were full of shit. There are quite a few boosted pintos on this site. I've been involved with building some of them and I understand your want to do something different. you asked a series of questions. your questions were answered.. (Supra W57 with a Hilux LSD or a Capri Atlas rear end) ..and then as a forum does, we went on to discuss the ins and outs of your build. Thats what forums do! If you don't like people discussing this then why come to a forum at all? Nobody is knocking it, and nobody is jealous. My previous turbo pinto was poking out 220hp and has potential for 280 odd hp. BTW being from the states I wouldn't be too suprised if it's a 2.3OHC 'pinto' engine that they rock in 80's mustangs and trucks.. in that case you can get more than 300hp out of it. I've seen 500hp versions. Very Very big and heavy though and not related to the english/cortina pinto at all.
treggo
Afraid to let up on a lie? No? You weren't flamed just asked questions. Its hard to give people advise about driveline if we know nothing about the rest of the setup. Good luck finding advise else ware if you going to be such a fucking priss. treggo
megasquirt?
sholdowa
Have we got much knowledge on the megasquirt? I'm well up for building one ( once I win the lottery ) for the pinto powering the fabled green machine sitting in bits in the garage. I'm an avid reader of http://www.megasquirt.info/ and the rest, and the soldering iron's quivering in anticipation. I see there's someone selling on trademe, but over $600 seems a bit steep for what is intended for the end user to be putting the hard yards in. Being a bit of a geek I'm always up for this approach. Problem is I can do the computer side of it, just can't weld for shit. Sticky of separate forum??? Just a thought,
Gaz
Think the megasquirt just controlls fuel not air.. so for $600 I would'nt bother. Just go with one of the old style links for cheap when they pop up. They will do it all with ease.
CaMpylobacter
megsquirt's buildable to anything
