two_days_late Posted August 24, 2007 Share Posted August 24, 2007 hey boes Hopefully my cars gonna start gettin paneled in the next couple of weeks (once WDE_BDY gets the Uterus out of the shed) and i just wanna find out about the wheels before the guards are flared. I've got bolt on fibreglass flares and im lookin at TSW Apex R's or something similar (any other ideas coz im not 100% sure?, would also like something with some dish but new school). Will be lookin around 40x215 (rear anyway) for tyres. The inside of the guard will be rolled anyway but just wonderin if anyones got any advice about rubbing or whether they look stupid? davidian Posted August 24, 2007 Share Posted August 24, 2007 cant say bout mk2 but my mk1 rubs like a bitch on back right wheel with lipped guards when theres weight in the back. left side is just ok. weird, maybe axels arent matched or something. however i "think" theyre fwd rims as the front just barely clears the struts, like up to 10mm. oh.. Raizer Posted August 24, 2007 Share Posted August 24, 2007 MK2s (excluding vans and wagons) have a fair bit more room in the guards than MK1s, so you may get away with just a good lipping on the guards. mikuni Posted August 24, 2007 Share Posted August 24, 2007 I'm not sure what look you are after but in my opinion, when you have wide guards (bolt ons or such) you need to have wide and probably smaller wheels to fill them. They need to go right out on to the guards, otherwise it doesn't look quite right. Example. Z with bolt ons and a 0 or negative offset wheel. http://www.classicdatsun.com/new/432flares-blue1.jpg Now, if you want to rock those wheels which are larger and more than likely, a more positive offset (fwd offset) they will sit in quite abit and not look right because they won't be sitting on the guards and the car will look wrong. The 15's with 40profile should work out about the same size as the factory 13s with 60 or 70profile accoring to the calculators on the net. Yep Yep, my panel beater seems to know what hes doin so he should be able to roll them out, or cut them if he has too. should really buy the wheels first. Anyone got any ideas on some otehr styles? If getting tyres wide enough to full out the guards meant i had to goto a slightly higher profile i'd have to really. Biscuts under big guards look stupid as. Id recopmend buying the rim first and the tyre then making them fit/not scrape at the desired height... then flaring and painting. Mk2 gaurds are ALOT bigger than mk1 but still you may need a bit of flaring... Dont do what I did and do the paint first. I got three sets of 15's in 4x108 pattern, 15x6.5's with 195/50/15's, you can go 195/45/15 of trademe for $105 a pop 15x7 with no tyres but FWD offset for use with hilux diff (prob no use to you) 15x8.5 RWD offset with 205/50/15 15x7.5 with 185/60/15. Any of them usefull to ya? PS. The TSW Volcano (the one with a bit of dish in ya pics) is a good rim but dont have as much dish as shown in the pic.. youll prob find the one in pic is a 18 or 19 or sumthng with more dish than the 15's. Mate in Welly has some 15's for sale but he wants alot for them... Another option is run 16's... 195/40/16 is easy to get to keep rolling diameter roughly same as a 15.. 16's only a tad more expensive too.
