Josh
So.. Ive got two driveshafts (one piece), one of them is from my old pinto and has the right diff end peice to bolt up to a capri diff. (driveshaft 1 we shall call it) The other is another I have which has the right gearbox end on it to fit the W55 but the wrong end to fit the capri diff. (driveshaft 2) So what I want to know is can you somehow take the end off the driveshaft 1 and put it on to driveshaft 2 so that it makes a driveshaft I can use, how hard is it, special tool etc or something? Heres a picture of the ends I mean: Hope someone can understand what I mean
sholdowa
Depends... the early escort propshafts had the uj's held in with circlips, which made them really easy to take apart. The later ones are staked instead, which makes for a more messy job, and I always worry ( so far needlessly ) that they are going to fall apart on me. Either way, you should be able to machine to fit the larget of the 2 spiders to fit. Sorry for the english - to me a driveshaft requires irs. Old habits... and if you want a home for the spares, I've got a standard prop I need to convert for a T9
Chrome_GT
I had a driveshaft made at CircleTrak Engineering CHCH. They'd be the place to go if it requires anything more than a disassembly and reassembly.
sholdowa
Thanks, they're now in my book.
Spencer
if there similar diameter just cut the yoke off the w55 one and bang it on the other drive shaft at the appropriate length (or vise versa). Then probably get a balance
mikuni
Then probably get a balance For a simple end change and ballance on a DS it will only cost between $100-150. For the hassle its probably worth it. If you just change the universal yourself and it breaks, you will be in big trouble/upside down. l1ttle_d3vil
yeah you can get them cut and joined. thats what I had done to mine to suit ae85 diff - T50 box. any engineer should be able to do it. they just chuck it in the lathe and cut them both, then join them up again. it is a fairly straight forward job and commonly done. otherwise as othe rpeople have said, if its already the right length and the uni's are the same size - just pull them apart and swap them around so you got the matching spline. Bistro
basically yea, eng shop would prob be the best. if you dont part the ends with a lathe its usually not square enough and you end up having to balance it with a huge bitch balance wieght. plus i guess there is always the possibitily at speed of somehting going wrong, balance weight coming off, and then mad shudder etc causes pole vault etc. accourding to a d/shaft place in levin. seemed to know there shit.
