d.p.n.s
hi all can any one tell me if capri front struts and springs are shorter then the escort ones? cheers
Raizer
Yes, Group 4 struts = Capri
J2Racing
What sort of capri are you talking?? I think you'll find capri ones are slightly shorter. I run mk2 esky inserts in my MK1 capri. If you get V6 ones they take bigger dia springs and have bigger stub axles.
crazy_rich
If you get V6 ones they take bigger dia springs and have bigger stub axles. Not true. both my capris are (were) 4 cylinders and have the larger stub axles (larger than an escort anyway). my haynes book states that pre facelift mk 1 had 5.31" dia coils and the facelift one had 5.27" coils. (both v6 or v4) both bigger than an escort. I'll pull the legs out of my 1600XL and measure the springs on that in the next week or so, but I've had a hub off and its the same size stub as my other one. a good site for refrence; http://www.tickfordportal.co.uk/capripower/bboard/

peteretep
ask retep pretty sure hes running capri springs but not sure if hes got capri struts or escort ones? I bought capri ones, but they were too big, stil drove around with them though haha, the escort ones were about 5-10mm thinner,I had to buy normal escort ones
J2Racing
V6 coils are 135mm dia. Not sure on 4cyl ones but I'm pretty sure you'll find the V6 run bigger bearings in the hubs.
Guest WESTCORT
so what springs you running retep? i need some new ones for my escort. the springs dont sit properly and they twist and bind when i turn etc, gives steering a horrible feel
peteretep
im still running the lowered kingspring escort ones, they twist in the seats too, quite annoying, I may look at changing them once I get it back on the road
sholdowa
See if you can get some roller top mounts. Expensive for what they are, but the only way to fix this for good.
J2Racing
I think you'll find that VC comodor strut tops will fit.

Guest WESTCORT
where can i get roller top mounts? i was thinkin if i had springs with fat coils like capri ones, but not capri ones cause they dont fit, they wouldnt twist and shit cause they would be harder to wind up so the top mount would actually do its job? sholdowa
No, the shocks aren't adjustable... let's just say that the brake and suspension upgrades (big drums at the back, bias pedal box and competition linings all round) cost about the same as the car did in the first place
