CaMpylobacter
mk1 = coil sprung. mk2 = leaf or am i wrong?
Jonny
Think so. Pretty sure 1's n 2's were both leaf. Mk3's were coil.
Gaz
Would be surprised if the mk1 cortina was coils. If it is tho why the fuck didnt they do that to all the later cortinas, escorts etc. bastards.
CaMpylobacter
yuh i remeber reading something bout lotus cortinas, might just be them
Jonny
Yuh maybe, my mk3s coil and im using a 2L diff. Was told it was from a 2000E but i think its a mk4/5 diff.
peteretep
all mk1 and mk2 cortinas were leaf sprung, only race cars may have been coil sprung, mk3 cortinas had coils all round then mk4/5 had 90% same chassis but with different body
Gaz
I know the mk3+ was differant. So anyone know if the diff is the same? or even if just the diff head is the same.
mkcortina
yeah im pretty sure mk1 and 2 diff heads are the same just diff ratios. you can also use secort diff heads as well. i had a mk2 sport head in my mk1 cortina for a while the only thing i had to change was the plare that the drive shaft bolts to. Gaz
Just sold my ghia diff in november. Got $210.00 for it Just brought a 3.9 whole rear end for 60 bucks and they are sending it to my doorstep included in that price. Im happy as larry. The 3.9 with some bigger wheels should sort this goat way to the hems.
cortina-mk1
MK1 cortina's are leaf spring ....unless its from a early 'a' frame lotus cortina (1964 ish) the only mk1 model to have coil overs factory as for differences between mk1 and mk2 it depends on years MK2s had salisbury type diffs (tin plate at rear for crown wheel and pinion access) so centers are not interchangable MK1s had 'banjo' type drop in centers overall length of a MK1 diff to a MK2 diff (i think from memory) is different MK2s are wider track. MK2s are leaf spring also but use different hand brake assembly and brakes

Gaz
mk1 and 2 cortina have head type diffs, but if you can find 1 go for a 3.75,or 3.5 out of a 2.8l capri, they fit escorts and are as strong as hell!!! or get a hilux lsd cut down and drilled with esky stud! I do have 2 hilux rear ends at home. one is LSD. haha thats for the escort tho. Nah i have decided to put a 5 speed in. The amount of rev diff you get from changing the diff was fuck all. Changing to 5 speed however is awsome.
