I did figures

Yeah mines a mk1 so went from that.

Engine weights would be similar. If youve seen a ca bare block it is very similar size to the kent 1600. The head is alloy so would be lighter but then its dohc. Should be a similar engine weight. Should really research weights. Seeing my escort has bigger brakes, differant diff and no interior it would be too hard to estimate weight.

Was just a quick look into it.

Of course it doesnt take gear ratios or traction into it so its not definatly saying a ca18det escort is faster than an evo7

in my gt3 book it has the power/weight ratios weight divided by power, dont know why its the other way around but its easier to comprehend when its like that, ie the lower the number the better

pinto escort = 8.2

s15 silvia = 7.8

evo 7 = 6.8

ca18 escort = 6.15

shelby cobra = 2.9 (365kw and weighs 1070kg)

I wouldn't be suprised if the CA was actually heavier than a kent. Both the blocks are cast and the kent head is tiny and probably doesn't weight as much as a CA head + acessories.

I don't know what a kent weights but a CA is about 115kg's last time I checked. A pinto is 120kgs for comparrison.

Plus EVO has 4WD, even with drivetrain losses, would take it on launch. Can't really compare an engine re-developed in the late 90s in a modern car with a engine last used in 1994 (I think) in an old car, even if it is fucking light. I'm sure RT will agree, sounds dumb, but the amount of development gone into the likes of an S15 or EVO 7 woul render this comparison redundant.

Its nothing about the engine or the car at all. Its all about power to weight which IS relevant. Putting traction aside if you had the cars with the same gear ratios, the car with the best power to weight would win everytime. (unless driver sucked big time).

It is ALL about power to weight at the end of the day

win where tho? down a quarter mile? possibly (may lose traction tho and wont do as good launch (as elliot says)

but who cares really if it would be faster in a str8 line, how it performs around a track is where its at, it may hav all the power, but would still handle like a sack compared to the evo

Like i said putting TRACTION aside.

Your buzz may be rounda track, I like straight line pure power.

And as for handleing like a sack of shit. Escorts have been and still are awsome track cars if set up right. I have a vid of an escort catching and then overtaking an evo on a circuit just because of pure better handling.

However this topic was not intended to have anything to do with tracks or drags. It was merely a comparison of differant engines in differant cars to provide a power to weight comparison. I have a friend with a s15 and one with an evo7 and I was wondering how an escort with a ca18det would compare. Just thought you guys might be interested.

Yeah standard they struggle so hard. But noone in their right mind would try and drive one standard fast. I hope. Even just lowered on mags with bigger sway bars they are not to bad.

Evos handle allright but in my eyes they greatly overated. Mates 95 BMW coupe handled better than his new evo.

no i don't agree.. you can compare anything to anything. An evo is awesome but it's still a new car full of heavy safety shit and new school junk. An escort is basically an oversized go-kart with an engine. The power to weight stats is very significant. I have footage of a MK2 RS2000 vs and EvoII around a track. And no the RS was not turbo or anything, twin side's and escort race bits etc. Don't know the spec of the Evo but it wasn't standard either.

The escort was up it's arse around every corner, the evo would pull away at top end on the straight but seconds later the escort was up its ass again and even over took it at one point.

Rightio then

I love how you guys bust that comparo between the Escort and EVO, each time it gets better and better for the escort:P

I'd love to see the RS2000 do that to an EVO. Seems very odd

It's dumb to say it all comes down to powertoweight, as that's never the case in real life. Tyres, ratios, driver error, wind, aerodynamics among other things all play a massive part. But then in saying that, I suppose this is just for the sake of being interesting, it's not to prove anything.

i got fucked off waiting so i got a subscription.

they arrive a week before the month begins

it worked out to cost the same to get them sent by air mail as it would cost from down the shop. and i know ill get a copy.

dec issue is mean it has a tech section on the 2l cossworth engine.

Which just makes me want to put 1 in a mk1 escort

thats cause escorts own :D

And im happy to say im going to be trying some evos on for size when my car is built. Perhaps not from a launch but from 80k+.

If you launch right in a RWD you can get some real good results with minimum traction loss.
