escortman
got a 1600 crossflow motor in my mk2 esky panel van will be 5sp . wat mods can b done that r cheap, most effective and doesnt invole forced induction for insurance reasons. im guessin 2in exhaust, and iv heard of ppl puttin the 1300 pistons in to raise the compresion. and buz it will b daily driven dont want side druaghts bcuz petrol prices are insane these days
Ned
2 best simplest things are letting everything flow better, eg exhaust (NOT TOO BIG OR LOUD!) carb and filter of some sort... i'm not into eskies but thats the general thing for all cars my 2c
atropine
32/36dgav twinchoke carb 4-1 extractors (or triY.. whatever ya want but 4-1 is more common) and a decent exhaust.. as muzz said ya want it as straight an unrestrictive as possible get a good air filter.. im a k&n fan and most people here will advise against ramflo.. fastroad cam like a bcf2 is always nice and doesnt make it bad on the street 1100/1300 or forged pistons are always an option at getting more comp. theyre the basics really.. get some pictures of your van up... geez theres a lot of us now with panelvan projects... RT
I'd say 1600GT head (biggest valves) port & polish to open up the airways. A decent fast road cam and a V6 Capri carb 40/40 DFA, extractors and a 2" exhaust. My mate had this exact setup and his escort was a weapon off the line aye. Mind you.. with the 40/40 DFA it was reasonable thirsty but you can't have it both ways eh.
escortman
yeh bein a sport motor its already got teh 4-1 extractors and hot cam with the twin down draught yeh i no aye iv had this panel van for bout a year will get some pics on weekend . its jus been sittin in mechanics workshop waitin its turn lik its a ground up rebuild cuz previous owner banked the rear end so he had all the rust removed from body and all panelbeaten so jus gotta paint
atropine
yeah mines a groundup 1600sport motor is all good as it is!! gt head would be nice.. 40/40 is a step up from the 32/36..
escortman
but iv heard goin up to teh 40/40 can be quite laggy. so wud u say chuck some 1300 pistons in and wat size exhasut 2in. and wen wills urs be finished ?
atropine
my sport will hopefully be finished asap.. but who knows panelvan groundup... when i have money... its currently completely stripped roller.. awaiting heavy body work, paint, my sports engine and then playaround.. my new panelvan.. well when everything else is done it might get done up a little.. but for now shes a good runner
RT
no way.. my mate had only the specs I told you. No 1300 pistons etc. and it was the complete opposite of laggy.. it got of it's arse quicker than a cut cat!
escortman
I'd say 1600GT head (biggest valves) is the gt head same as sport head?

davidian
cheapest way? on the real? A: go to the wreckers, $100 for pinto and youre away. you asked for the cheapest... well depending on your idea of quick, as far as im concerned cheap does not equate quick. ever. Depends on your idea of "cheap" too. whats the budget?
atropine
yeah.. depends on what you think... i think a sport engine is nice and quick.. i also think the zetec will be nice and quick...
SYKOV6
all the above mods but use a single 40/40 sidedraught easier to tune and not as hungry as 2. if you want power you need to build the engine from scratch with all the parts matched for the particular purpose youve got in mind. my engine builder has a little quote he uses all the time its 'if the head dont flow the motor wont go' quite good i reckon
atropine
yeah good idea on a single 40mm sidey.. but then ya got the brake booster shit to deal with and if your doin that then why not go for 2!!! :P although, if anyone does wanna do a single sidey, ive got a manifold for a xflow... would sell
SYKOV6
yeah your right i forgot about the booster. youd prolly have to ditch it and fit a remote one
davidian
hey D, could you possibly elaborate on the relocation/remote business? perhaps in another topic? ive been having issues with mine for a long time: changed, rebuilt, rewelded, allsorts
