hey all.

just bort me a new cortina

http://www.trademe.co.nz/structure/auction_detail.asp?id=30481115

and ive got a couple questions an a problem with her.

when i bort th car, the previous owner told me that when the car reaches around 60-70 km/h you can hear rumble or humming from under the car.

he seemd to think it was the joint between the front part of the drive shaft and the rear. yesterday i took her in to get a new exhaust fitted adn i askd the midas guy to have a look at th driveshaft and he sed he cant find anything rong with it.

does anyone hav an idea what could be the rumbling on my car?

and also, wen i bort the the car, the guy gave me a set of tuned length extractors. yesterday i fitted them and i also replaced the middle muffler with a coby number and i havnt noticed any noise or performance differences. will i hav to fit some form of rear muffler or tip or whatever?

cheers all ,ANdrew

depends what tip you have.

A free flow system is nothing with a restrictive peashooter at the end. Also - just with changing exhaust system I doubt you would nothing much on an otherwise std 1600 in that body

Thats a nice 'Tina. I love the MK3's.

Extractors buy themself won't do fuck all. You need a larger say 21/4 system straight through. Even then the difference will be minimal because the engine is standard. Particuarly the head which needs porting. Needs porting real bad. Once the head is flowing more then the need for and exhaust is there hense the gains.

Rumbling is probably the diff perhaps. Buy another one for $50 and throw it in.

Congrats on the ride though. Something different.

get an oval, straight through muffler from repco or somewhere like that.. mount it nicely at the back, tucked up as high as possible, but right toward the rear

mac a 2-1/4 - 2-1/2" tailpipe, just aluminised mild steel, straight off it, old school race/rally styles...

that = porn

great lookin mk3 too dude, can't say I ever saw it around palmy at all.. nonetheless cool - old man used to have a 2000e when they wee fairly new, and pimp as... used to see it parked outside the workshop that the dude that got it off my old man worked at, so pimp...

i got zillions of pics but they all on the comp an i dont have them on any site. lol

Host them using http://www.imageshack.us

Yea I'd say the rumbling would be the diff.

I have a 1600ohv in my mk2 escort, its fairly standard but I put on extractors and all new 2 1/4" pipe with 2x coby 14" x 2 1/8" resonaters, it sounds quite good, not droninhg or overly loud but if you give it some gas it sounds like its got some balls :D

rumbling could be wheels are out of balance, driveshaft or diff.

I just replaced my driveshaft because one of the joints was fucked and wouldnt move in 1 direction and that made a big fuck off rumbling sound, is probly your driftshaft can get a replacement from wreckers or get a universal joint kit and replace the bearings and stuff in your driveshaft.
