zep
Ok, my car seems to be understeering a bit when I take corners hard. It still has the stock sway bars in it. If I upgrade these to heavy duty ones, will it cure my understeer problem? I will be doing some nolathane bushes in there too.
lowlancer
Turbo it and get oversteer
RT
You can get heavy duty sway bars made but it's expensive. The cheap option is to to this:
zep
Whiteline make both HD and HD adjustable swaybars for my car which I can get. The questions is whether this will help fix my problem. Maybe i'm just too light at the front.
v3k
How much toe-in can you give your car? That might help a little... or get some better rubber up front. as far as I understand understeer is caused by traction up front being lost and momentum taking over. Solutions: more traction (wider or better rubber), more weight up from (pig iron over coils ), or lose some traction at back (put 155 bickies on the back!) lol
Pushrod
If your car is understeering already from what I know putting in a HD sway bar with only make it worse the front will be nice and stiff but understeer may still be a problem you can increase the front track and increase the negative camber which should have the effect of promoting oversteer I think anyway correct me if im wrong
lowlancer
Putting wider tyres won't neccessarily help The weight from the car will be dispersed, thus less pressure down on the ground... I suppose you can take it to a point though
Guest B.I.G Developments
when was ur alignment last done? increasing track width can help. If you toe-out too much it can cause stability problems travellin at high speed in a str8 line. sway bars will help with cornering but i don't think it wil fix ur problem fitting nolathane bushes has the same effect as a swaybar 2mm larger in diameter i would recommend getting ur alignment checked before u do anything and have all ur suspension components checked for wear also. go to somewhere like the shock shop. the one on station road in penrose is good they know what they are talkin bout down there The Shock Shop Alignment Specialists 137 Station Road Penrose 09 579 5246 for all ur suspension and alignment needs. zep
Logan and I did replace the front springs and shocks the other day, which could have fucked with it a bit. I haven't had my alignment done for ages so I'll have that done soon. Yeah, it just feels as if there isn't enough weight at the front when cornering fast (if anyone has ever driven up the road from the Chelsea Sugar factory, that big corner allmost killed me the other night). I have new shocks and springs all round, just gonna do the bushes sway bars and panhard rod to finish and hope it's all good.
